what's the best way to do this and not have to reformat the hd?
I had a problem once before where I think the motherboard drivers were so different that it bluescreened on bootup. whats the best way to do this. Also, If I go with a 64 bit amd cpu, how much better is the windows 64 bit op than the 32 bit. If I use XP pro like on my amd xp2100 cpu now on a amd 64 cpu, will it slow it up a bunch?

I haven't upgraded in 3 years and some of the fry's boards sure are calling my name.

do not use win xp 64. most cases you must start from scratch when switching mobos, so its a good idea to back up your data. you dont HAVE to have xp64 to use an AMD64 processor. which proc were you looking at?

Why not? Just asking because i was thinking about using it, everything i use has driver support.

it used to be pretty hard to find drivers for it, and it still isnt very easy. might as well stick with home or pro until vista comes out

not that i know of. my friend used it once on his new computer, and we ended up having to re-install again and had to put pro back on because we couldnt get the right drivers.

I have to look up that m/b and see if it's agp and ddr400 & ide or what

 

if your swapping boards plan on reinstalling everything.

You might get away with it if its the same socket/chipset and just another vendor.
