ok im in the process of building a 97 non pi shortblock with stock pi heads cams intake. the motor/car will have a tune ud pulleys lt headers and exhaust. What can i expect at the wheels with this motor combination. also what would it make with a tb and plenum since those are the only 2 things i dont have??

TIA

If Im not mistaken that motor put 260 hp to the crank, which is proabably around 200 to the wheels, give or take a little, but a tune, headers and pulleys wont give you as much as you might think so dont be surprised if you dont see a noticeable gain.

My guess is around 10-15 hp.

And the TB and Plenum dont make much difference. You probably wouldnt even see the difference on a dyno with those 2 alone.

The compression bump is worth a decent amount with the non pi piston's matched with pi head's. Mine made 275rwhp with full bolt on's and the non PI block tuned/

If you dont mind me asking, what bolt ons do you have, exactly ?

My 97 with full bolt ons makes just over 300rwhp

and 315rwtq . Mine has heads, cams, bullit intake and all supporting mods.

Accu fab plenum, throttle body, cai, longtube's, x pipe, plasma booster, pulley's, steeda timing adjuster, descreened maf and custom dyno tune
Ok sounds about right. I was told in the ball park of 270-300. Right now it makes 247 rwhp with cai tune lt headers pi cam and intake. So it should be a good gain..

It's a worthy mod. I had a 99 pi setup that I swapped to a 98 non pi short block and the compression boost was nice. The only thing is don't plain on running much boost if you wanna go FI.
Are the heads going to be ported? I think you'll be between 265-285 rwhp. Not sure the TB and plenum will be worth a lot. I'd say save your money on those and save for bullitt intake swap. I was able to do the complete swap for about $900 back in 2003. This was on my old '97 GT. It made 300 rwhp with HP forged shortblock (9.5:1), ported PI heads, HP blower cams, bullitt intake, longtubes, etc. There was more left in the tune. I never really got it dialed in.

Post up your results. Good luck.

WELL THAT SOUNDS GOOD. IM ACTUALLY NEEDING AN INTAKE TO PUT ON THIS MOTOR SO DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA AS TO WHERE I CAN GET A BULLIT INTAKE. AND ARE THEY BENEFICIAL THROUGH THE WHOLE RPM RANGE OR WHAT??? aLSO I WAS HAPPY WITH THE 247 THAT IT MAES NOW SO I THINK 280ISH WILL BE PERFECT.

I would highly recommend searching on www.corral.net/forums. You should find all the info you need about doing the swap on there. Do a search for threads under my screenname (2cammer97). I posted about my dyno results from the bullitt intake and i'm pretty sure I posted a full parts list of what I used for the swap, including ford part numbers. I think I picked up about 10 rwhp/10 rwtq at peak over the stock PI intake, but higher increases throughout the entire powerband, and especially in the upper rpms.

As far as finding a bullitt intake itself, I would check ebay, the corral, here, craigslist, etc. Let me know if you can't find any of the info I mentioned and I'll try and help find it.

In my opinion the bullitt intake isn't worth your time unless you going with nitrous or FI.
