Weedeater locked up

Went to use my weedeater over the weekend and it was locked up and I couldn't pull the cord. Checked the oil and it was empty and I'm thinking that because I hung it up upside down (which I normally don't do) it might have drained out. Filled it up and of course it's still locked up. Any ideas on how to fix this? I haven't taken anything apart and I wouldn't know what to look for anyway but I'm hoping I didn't just screw it up

It's not a 2 stroke?

I happen to have just upgraded if you are interested in my old one.

It's a 4 stroke, I hate 2 strokes with a passion now

Appreciate the offer. This is one of those "convertible" weedeaters and I've got some money invested in it with the edger and blower attachments. I'll probably take it partially apart this weekend to see if anything is obviously wrong if my research doesn't turn up anything.

I've bought 2 weedeaters in the past 4 years. The first was an Echo piece of shit, and the 2nd was a Ryobi piece of shit.

Do any of these pieces of shit last longer than 2 seasons?
Take the plug out and pull the cord. dont stand over it while doing so,lol

I think mine's an Echo........work's like new still........I'm not saying you don't, but they have to be maintenanced correctly and they will last.
Stihl is the best trimmer you can buy. 4 stroke trimmers are a joke and crap. Ryobi, Bolens, Troy-Bilt, it's all build by the same company MTD just a different cover and different paint. It's all crap. I can sell you a Stihl if you want a good trimmer. People bring in those weedeaters everyday to our store to get them repaired. We dont even work on them. It's not worth the time or the clients money to fix them. Evil just throw it away it's not worth it.

Well I got out lucky. My dad told me that he went and got it fixed this afternoon. Some repair shop took it apart and fixed whatever was wrong with it for $20 :D
cool sounds like the cord got hung up. I have had it happen on mowers and concrete saws where the line gets frayed and hangs up.

Quoted for the motherfuckin' truth!

My Stihl is now 10 years old and still running like it is brand new.

My rebuilt Ryobi that I bought at Harbor Freight 10 years ago has worked like a champ since I bought it. And this is using it a couple hours at a time. Best damned weed eater ever!

Using high octane gas in yours? Critical to do so...
I always hang our echo upside down... no problems..

Yep!
I had my auger do the same thing. Cable would not pull, I just figured the piston rusted to the cylinder. Pulled the plug to spray the cylinder and just pulled a couple of times and it spit some nasty shit out and pulled with no problem after. Put the plug back in and it busted off and ran like a champ.
I see your Dad got it fixed. I was gonna suggest the "bang on the side real hard" fix.

Bud did your Echo drain all the oil out? Not sure why mind did but I do not normally hang it upside down simply because the hooks I have grab the motor better than it does the other side of it. I'm thinking I didn't have the oil cap on to tight but who knows.

Ya, he knows some guy in the neighborhood that does small engine repair out of his house and sells some old mowers and weedeaters that he's fixed. Just glad I wasn't out of pocket much... actually I wasn't out anything as my dad paid for it :D

STIHL is last longer if you do proper maintenance
