Washed under the hood a mistake

807 Views 32 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  ceyko
Hi I'm hoping someone can help. I washed under the hood of my car at the carwash. Now the care is idling bad and driving with loss of power it seems, and the service engine soon light is on now. I'm sure something is still wet that should not be. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry guys.... just frustrated... its a 2000 mustang gt

don't tell us what kind of vehicle or anything... much more fun to guess!

I'm guessing you got water somewhere it shouldn't be... dry that out and you'll be good to go
What kind of car would be helpful.
Maybe its the wet dickfer on the right side underneath the doohikie.
It's a car with an engine, frame, body, and tires.

on a side note.....I never wash engine when it's hot.....wash it at home when engine is cold and cover the alternator and battery
Was it the one with the headlights and the muffler.
I have never washed under the hood. Just for the simple fact of whats going on with the OP. I don't have time to be troubleshooting a problem my dumbass created.
I've washed under the hood of every vehicle I've owned... only had a problem the first time :)

Then its definitely the dickfor on the rightside underneath the dohikie.
@ line-em-up... it has no distributor

@mstng86... I don't think its the dickfor on the rightside underneath the dohikie... but thanks.

How the hell was I supposed to know if you don't bother saying what kind of car it is. I was speaking from experience because, on my 87 stang, I used to have to wipe out the distr cap after a thorough carwash.
Good news is most of the time your trouble will go away after everything dries unless you fried something.
Thanks for the replies I received from everyone... and again sorry I forgot to mention what kind of car it was.
Just wait it out, everything will be fine when the water evaporates.
The problem you have to worry about now is the item that got wet. If that is metal or electronic then it will eventually rust or corrode. :raincloud:
Ive never had a problem doing that, steam clean em all the time.
