WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, has agreed to pay $11 million to settle federal allegations it used hundreds of illegal immigrants to clean its stores, authorities said Friday.

Additionally, 12 businesses that provided contract janitor services to Wal-Mart will pay $4 million in fines and plead guilty to criminal immigration charges, officials said.
So, now you are not only responsible for your company's actions but contractors you hire too.

In my experience companies are frequently responsible for the actions of contractors. That is why it is important to have an agreement the indemnifies the company and places financial responsibility for financial claims onto the contractor.

Look at computer disposal.. Even if companies outsource disposal they can still be held liable should the contractor improperly dispose of them.
