I've got a 2002 Ranger with the m5od 5speed transmission that needs a rebuild or possible replacement. I'm pulling the tranny next week if I can find some one local near Garland/Sachse or any local DFW for the rebuild or purchase of a new one. Any info is appriciated.

Just about any large transmission shop should have that unit in stock. Going rate down here in San Antonio is between $550-750 + a core to give you an idea.
m5od in a ranger?
After researching that, yes, they do have the M5....jeezus I hate that trans..too bad it still exists.
When they work, they work, when they dont', it is hard to keep the matches away!
I alwas got my rebuilt trans from standard transmission in Ft. Worth. Thye can actually rebuild them to last.
Hey contact LT Motorsports in Richardson, they rebuilt my son's 93 Cobra tranny for me!! Great group of guys - tell em Kevin sentcha!!

Yeah it's a horrible design, and it just..... wont..... die. Ford has been putting these in Rangers for like 20 years. I wish they would innovate, but that's word is not in Ford's vocabulary.
That is unless they have something that really DOES work, like the 4.9L inline 6 they got rid of...what a shame.
Its not a horrible design at all. In fact its a very durable transmission as long as it has fluid in it. Once you install steel plugs in the rear part of the shift plate, you rarely have an issue as long as its used properly. I have built literally hundreds of these units and can count on my hands how many came back under warranty with issues.
