Townhomes for Rent??

Well to make a long story short, our electric bills at our house we are renting are sky high and have been a little over 700.00 each month. Something is either wrong with the thermostat or the actual unit itself. For months now we have asked our landlord to send someone out to look at it- she calls Saturday FINALLY and says that her Home Warranty thing will not pay to fix the unit and she will not pay for it either, so we have to pay to have the unit fixed. UM NO. So we kindly told her Saturday that we will be leaving because we don't feel it is our job to pay for the air conditioner since we pay rent to live there. Anyway...

I have been looking at places today trying to find some either nice apartments for the time being or a nice townhome with a small yard in the Rockwall, Rowlett or Garland area. I have looked over by Firewheel at the apartments/townhomes there, but they are a little pricey and this is only for the time being. Does anyone know of any around the area for rent, a lot of the web sites I can't see at work but have found a few to go check out since we have like 20 days to move. haha

We rent a house in rockwall and the electricity is never over $200 adn we keep it on 74 most of the time.

We're paying a little more for rent than I would like to, but the free child care we get from living so close to home makes up for it.

Check out Prime Properties they should have a list of all their available properties.
Thats FUCKED up. Its her responsibilty to make any repairs to the place if your paying rent.... I thought mine was high at 394 last month and 310 this month. 700 WOW! F THAT!
Damn! $700 is almost a rent check.
what company you with? What temp you have it on? How large is the place? What direction does it face? N/S or E/W?
Jesus!
Oh July took the cake.... 1058.00 for electricity. And she thinks nothing is wrong with the ac. lol.

and how many roommates?
700?! WTF? We have ours set at 70 and still only spent $180. Only 1200ish square feet though.
We are with TXU. Its 1800sq feet, faces N/S. Stays on 78-79 and runs ALL day. At Christmas when we first started noticing a problem it jumped up to 500 and TXU told us we kept our christmas tree and christmas lights on too much. lmao
and how many roommates?
Me, My boyfriend and our 1 year old son
1058!!! I would have moved out then.
Thats when we called her, I was like ok this is just down right stupid. And thats when she told us it was our responsibilty to pay for it. Its also our responsibilty to get the house sprayed and the electrical work we needed done on the back porch to fix the plug
Fuck that... I'm mad about my $400 electric bill inyour old house

nope wrong. Bullshit, she should pay for general maintenance. Of course, it does depend on what the agreement is on paper.

I've asked my landlord to make repairs, but she has not done so. What do I do?

Write a letter to the landlord and / or manager that includes the following:

* Date
* Repair problem
* Whether the problem is a threat to health / safety
* Deadline for repairs to begin (5 days is considered reasonable. In the case of an emergency -- 24 hours)
* Signature

The letter should be hand delivered to the landlord (Bring a witness along) or sent to the landlord by both regular or Certified mail, or Return Receipt Requested mail. Keep a copy of this letter.

When the deadline given is exceeded without the landlord making a diligent effort to make repairs, tenant should write a second and final notice including:

* Date
* Repair problem
* Whether the problem is a threat to your health / safety
* Notice that unless the repairs are made in seven days, the tenant will:

1. take legal action under the Texas Property Code to enforce repairs and recover damages; or
2. terminate the lease and move; or
3. exercise rights to repair and deduct if repairs are not made; or
4. a request for a written explanation for the delay in making the repair.

Again, the letter should be hand delivered to the landlord (Bring a witness along) or sent to the landlord by both regular or Certified mail, or Return Receipt Requested mail. Keep a copy of this letter. Click here for more information on Tenant Remedies for Non-Repair.

Theres nothing in our papers that say anything about any of that being our responsibilty. Also in it said after 6 months, our payments go towards a rent to own thing and she backed out of that and said they changed their mind and werent going to sell for 5 years.
Hmm, I suppose regardless of how many folks you have living in there, those bills are crazy!

Are you able to view rent.com from work? You can put in there the location and your ideal payment. It'll pull up everything including apartments, but you can click the tab for condos and apartments.

What is your ideal monthly payment?
she sounds like a cunt. you could lawyer up for multiple breaches of contract but its not worth it. i'd just move out and screw her out of a months worth of rent for your trouble.
U need to call txu..your meter has to be fucked up..............then make them reimburse you. My mom and dads was fucked up but it was on their shop meter....read very little,elect. Company got suspiscious because it was reading low,so they changed the meter,bame....more electricity was being used.....so they tried to make them pay about 10 mos of elect on some pro rated shit,took awile but they just ended up paying a fraction of what the elect company wanted. You do need to call them though because there is no way you can be using that much power..unless your neighbor is tied to your meter
