Such thing as a real motion tracking auto turret?

Just curious if anyone knew if they were real. You see em in all the video games but do they really exist? I guess the application would be limited, due to the fact that people really like to know who they are shooting, for many reasons. So there wouldn't be too great a market for it. Not to mention that it wouldn't be hard to wreck them, without a real person monitoring/watching what's going on somewhere. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the autoturret to begin with. You would have em so people could be elsewhere.

Why do I want to know? Cause I got some dumbass idea about how I could use 'em to keep birds away from my koi pond. :D

do a search on youtube for "paintball sentry gun". there is a guy that made a homemade one that shoots paintballs and has a ton of videos about it. seemed pretty badass.
Thanks. Found them and sent them this email. Got anything to add?

"Hi. I wanted to ask you a few questions about the stuff you offer. I posted a comment on youtube but it's probly better just to ask you directly. I will be building a large fish pond in a couple of months, and I have had some problems in the past with birds and cats in the past, with other ponds I have owned. I saw your auto turret vids on youtube and then I went to your site where it says you could make one shoots water. This sounds great as it would surely run off cats and those big heron birds, as well as have an unlimited supply of ammo. Which would of course be the pond's water. I will be hooking up a system that automatically adds water to the pond if it ever gets low, so we wont run into the problems of the turret draining the pond. Not to mention there would have to be a heck of a lot of cats and birds to drain a pond.

But the only problem I can see with this is 1) How can I approach the pond without being sprayed (perhaps a remote off switch) and 2) How can we do it without a laptop? The turret and many of it's components will need to be out in the elements for the entirety of it's existence. So that would kill a laptop in very short order. Not to mention the cost of having a laptop dedicated to running all this at all times. Maybe we could run a wire into my house to my PC? But even minus a laptop, the other components would have to be pretty stout too, to resist the elements for years to come. Lastly I would like to get a total cost figure for all this, if I could. The servos would not need to be able to make the gun track anything above say... 4 feet off the ground, but be able to swivel 360 degrees. But it would need to be able to tilt up and down all the way up to the 4 feet point of course, as the cats are much shorter than the tall herons. Wouldn't mind it spraying rats and such as well, they come every once in a while to the smell of the fish food. Thanks for your time, Jason"

You don't need pinpoint accuracy - just having the fucker go off will do the job. If you want to walk up to it, turn off the water :)
Cool thanks. Now for a totally separate topic. Are there any Koi ponds in the DFW area? I seem to be having a hard time finding a place to buy some larger ones from. Petsmart and Petco only have little koi or goldfish.

Not sure where you're located but the best place I can think of is the Dallas North Aquarium in Carrollton. They sell all sorts of stuff and may have what you're looking for. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call.

hahaha nice.
I'm pretty sure the Phalanx system is automated.

There are several variants but yes it is.

Actually alot of raytheon sensory has this capability now. It's pretty neat to see the live demonstrations with the EO sensors and such. With the predators and other airborne systems with a later EO setup, targets on the ground can be easily tracked.
The cannons on the front of the combat helicopters are tied into the helmet of the pilot, such that wherever he moves his head, that's where he's gonna be shooting..
We have something similar over here, (deployed).
Its a minigun that detects morters, and literally blows them out of the sky. Its an awesome sight at night, it looks like a red rope going into the air with a little explosion at the end.
looks like all you need is a motion sensor hooked to an on off switch. i see no need for a lap top. unless you are planning on using bullets.

The Phalanx was mentioned earlier, I think it is also called a CRAM? Not really sure if they are the same thing, just different name or not.

This video shows that it CAN hit a mortar, but i have never heard it go off when we are getting attacked.

So they kind of only work half ass? Guess it's better than nothing..
My buddy works for a company that contracts for the government and he writes code for the motion controllers for gimbles that auto stabilize and auto track targets for cameras and weapons.
