Stolen vehicle recovery?

463 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  BottleRocket
So as some of you may remember, my ZX10 was stolen a few months ago. I settled w/ my insurance company and ended up coming out on top in that deal luckily. I got the settlement about a month ago before I left for Air Force Field Training. Well I got back a few days ago and today got a call from Denton PD telling me that Ft Worth PD has recovered my bike in good condition. Now I know there is no way of knowing how it was treated while it was gone, but I'm assuming "good" condition means it wasnt stripped down and wasnt wrecked, which is good. So my main question is to anyone familiar with insurance, what happens next? Is this now titled as a theft recovery? Am I able to buy it back? Will it be for the same price as the settlement or less now that it is a recovery? Any other info you might have is great too. I'm happy about the settlement, but miss the bike every day and would love to get it back, but its definitely not worth giving up the whole amount with the mystery of how it was treated.

You have been made whole by the insurance company.

The insurance company will sell the bike in auction in attempt to recover some of what they paid. The bikes title im sure is in the hands of the insurance co, as they are now the owners. Legally.

It was yours prior, thats why you were called. But you wouldnt be able to get it out.

And about buying it back. Ive never seen a company sell it back to the owner, closest thing ive ever seen is the company telling you where its going to be auctioned.

What company was it, i can prob tell you what company they use to auction it off. heh

State Farm
I believe they use either Copart or IAA.
Ill ask my lead tomorrow, he used to work for them.

Edit: Have you tried calling your adjuster?
I can find it all out with just the VIN. :D
State Farm
The bike will be titled in their name, you will not get it back from State Farm. The only way you'll get it back is getting a salvage buyer to get it for you at IAA or Copart.
Don't worry about it. It now belongs to the insurance company
Where was it found?

If you want to PM me the service number to the report I can find out.

How would I go about doing that?

03TrubluGT: I have it written down in my car, I'll PM you in a bit
Keep me informed Chris, I'm truly interested in the details as to how FWPD got their hands on it. I'm also curious on what the 'good condition' actually is. Crazy, you have no idea how happy Beth was to hear this, I swear she loved it as much as I did! I saw a black 08 10r yesterday not 2 hours before you called me, how weird is that!

I just hope I have the chance to get it back! From what I've been reading here, it doesn't look promising :(

Once they actually pick it up, it will be for sale on their site.

Did you speak w/ FWPD? Whats the scoop?!
