on my son.

He's going to be a freshman this coming school year and he made the Varsity hockey team.

I've watched him skate since he was 4 years old, and this is a big compliment to be chosen as a freshman.

Congrats Chandler.....

For those that haven't seen him, this is him on the left in 2000 with Mike Modano:

And one of him this past season:

really? i would think it'd be like that mighty ducks movie, trying to grab people off the street to play hockey. are there seriously high school hockey teams in texas? thats ridiculous.

seriously though, congrats, its always a proud moment when your kid does something special.
Fucking awesome, Matt!

Why is it ridiculous? My brother was on the Varsity Flower Mound High School hockey team, they've had a team since 2002.
i was just being an ass.. thats all. but you do have to admit, making the varsity hockey team in a state where more then what, 10% of the population actually understands the rules of hockey would be a little more impressive. :D

its still a cool thing, just might not get the ladies as easily as being a football or baseball star... at least until he moves up north. LOL
I suppose he was more willing to take pictures in 2000 because he sure as hell won't do it now. Awesome photo though.

<----- just a tad jealous

I think you're underestimating the popularity of hockey in this area.
What league do they play for that they wear the Stars uniform? That's bad ass! My boys are about ready to start playing.
Congrats, Matt! He seems like a great kid and is well deserving of it. :)

I'd say there are probably 40 high school hockey clubs in North Texas.

The good thing is that it's cheaper than playing travel hockey, the club dues are $2,500 and the uniforms are $550. We spent $5,000 last year for the Dallas Stars Select teams and that didn't include travel, gear, etc...

I skated with him during the filming of the Direct TV/NHL Center Ice commercial. He was very impressed with Chandler and the director wanted to put Chan in the commercial as Modano as a kid, but they ran out of time.

Mo was very nice and had no problem chatting with the Brahmas that were the extras and myself. I had heard he was very rude and self centered, but for the two hours I was around him, I saw none of that.

That is the Dallas Stars Selects.

Cool deal! I had some friends in high school on the hockey team who loved it. Hope it does good things for your boy.

It should. The head coach wants him to play Juniors, but he's too young right now.

I just think this year he should concentrate on HS hockey and not travel until we can make sure he can maintain an A average while playing.
Props to your son, I always loved playing hockey as a kid.
Congrats to the kiddo.

And good man, making him keep his priorities straight. I know that sounds like common sense, but after being involved with my kid's bball team, it's not as common as I thought.

Where are you from?

Hockey sure as hell wasn't around (Except for the Dallas Freeze) in the 80's when I was in school.
Congrats to your son man.
