Its really sad, I have done the roof on this house for the last 10 years, everytime it needs a new one. The lady has lived there since the late 50's. She actually sold all the land that all the new hosues are built on. Because of that one mistake, Green Valley was forced to shut down, due to the noise. Here is a cool link to Green Valley and so other historic tracks in DFW. She also said several times drag cars ran off the track, and ran up on there front porch. She has some cool memories of the track.

I grew up walking distance from there.

I figure that's why there were so many racecars on the street in NRH.

I remember being able to hear the races from my backyard as a kid.

Green Valley was known as "Race City." If I remember correctly tons of records were set out there in the 60's.

Yes you are correct on the tons of records being set. You are right about race city. Its just a shame some really neat tracks were forced to close. :frown:

...and 70's.
I grew up living real close to green valley, Can remember the sounds and smell of nitro fumes roaming around the back yard. still to this day. I made it out there for the last big race they had. I thought it would be a cool to take a picture of a Gene Snow leaving the line from the rear, .:pat: Just let me say not a good spot, hot unburnt nitro and rubber being shot at you hurts like hell.:censored: I was picking rubber off me and my camera for a hour. Now I know why no one else was getting that shot.:damnit1:

Gene Snow was one of the greatest drivers of all time. I meet him once I have his autographed pictures somewhere. It was cool because I was only 3 or 4 at the time. Its such a shame to see it completely gone now. When I first was in that area 10 years ago there was still part of the track and the tower. Now there is nothing but houses on it. :(
I am not from a family that builds cars.

It is one of those things that I got into completely on my own.

Part of why I was so taken with dragracing and motorsports has to do with Green Valley Raceway.

I never understood until I worked at Denton Dragway and the owner refered to me as "one of those Green Valley kids." Then I truly understood why I loved drag racing so much and grew up in a comunity packed with racecars on the street. Rarely have I ever seen a neighborhood with more 10 second cars rolling around on a regular basis.

I wish I would have been old enough to have enjoyed it. My dad went there alot as a kid with my grandpa. My neighbor used to go out there alot and race his 68 mustang coupe.
My Dad went there alot back then. He talked about it and Yellow Belly alot. I saw my first Top Fuel race at one of those tracks. I was young...........can't remember which one.
Yall do know the owner of green valley bought texas raceway and then he died about a year later. His daughter was running it last time I heard. If you remember going out there in 04 the tickets were from green valley.
Gene Snow... from the rear
 cuz that's the way (uh-huh, uh-huh) he likes it!

She still runs it. TXR was still giving out tickets from Green Valley last year.

There is a DVD that you can rent from the NRH library on the history of NRH(1984 or somesuch). In it, there are interviews with people concerning ownership and history of the track.
I thought there was still part of the tree out there!? Last time I was out that way (been a few years) I could still see it.

in 10 years how many roof jobs did you do on this single house?

This will be number 2 as far as a full roof goes, I also did her flat roof back in 02. And stopped her other house from flooding because the roof was so warn out it was leaking all over and flooding the house. We got up on this steep thing and put down plastic, while it was pouring down rain. As far as my company goes this is the 4th time doing her brother in laws house and her own personal house.
I remember the road course at Greenvalley with 66 Shelbys?? 65 'stangs kicking ass. That was 1970 ? Stole a poster for Polar Bear races, still got it, somewhere. Saw it in my stuff a while ago.
I remember seeing a 8 second 1/4 mile pass and saying how could the cars go any faster.
Sunday ! Sunday ! Sunday ! Waves of Funny Cars !! 64 racers in the first round.
Miss them days.
and no your not taking my daughter to the drag races, but sir I already have tickets for her.
Went without her.:sadwavey:
