only 1200 miles away, you should be able to see something.

Launch preparations are continuing tonight for the planned liftoff of space shuttle Discovery on the STS-128 mission while meteorologists study current weather trends at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Launch is scheduled for 1:36 a.m. EDT, but the weather conditions are currently not acceptable for launch. Weather teams in Florida and at mission control in Houston are watching the situation for signs of improvement. The countdown is in its last planned hold at the T-9 minute mark. The launch, mission control, and preflight mission management teams will conduct flight readiness polls to clear the shuttle for launch before the countdown resumes. No technical issues have developed during the countdown tonight and this morning.

WTF are your neighbors doing outside at 12:30 AM that they can be judging you?

BTW, next time just grin, point up, and say, "They're coming back for me tonight."

haha that would be some funny as shit cause they sit outside in the backyard with their stoner buddies and smoke wacky tobaccy...on the other hand it'll probably make them roll up another one and hope they get tacken also...
damnit. I was hoping to see this since I'm on the east coast right now.
Yup, I have the NASA channel and didnt waste my time goiing outside, they had a feeling they were going to scrub the launch because of weather. Should be good to go tonight, THROTTLE UP bitches!
I did not know that the space shuttle did not have any forward thrust what so ever when coming back to earth. I always wondered why the hell they had to haul ass back so fast. I just think we should find a smarter way to cruise around in space. Interesting link:

so we should be able to see it at night?
Yes, its over 1000 miles away but on a clear night you should be able to look to the SE and see something...
Launch of space shuttle Discovery was postponed early this morning due to lingering thunderstorms in the vicinity of the launch pad. Launch has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 1:10 a.m. EDT.

Does that also mean we don't have a force field and photon torpedos?

only obama's new world order shuttles have those.
DUH!

They are finding a better way. They're going back to using capsules, which they shouldn't have ever gotten away from to begin with.

Unfortunately, NASAs new rocket, Ares I and Ares V, are stupidly expensive and will likely be canceled in the next couple of months. NASA was supposed to design their new rockets based off existing Space Shuttle components and infrastructure but instead ended up redesigning everything. The result is an over priced monstrosity that has already cost us $3billion and hasn't flown a damn thing. There is several BILLION more to be spent before they can fly people on it.

Compare that with SpaceX (right here in Texas) which designed a totally new rocket from the ground up, along with an unmanned cargo capsule to resupply the space station. They did all that for LESS than $1billion. The first flight of this new Falcon 9 rocket is supposed to be sometime this year with the cargo ship flying to the space station by the end of next year.

But here's the cool thing about SpaceX's little cargo ship (called Dragon). The company founder, Elon Musk of Paypal fame, had his company build the cargo ship so that it can be easily converted to carry people. The Dragon even has windows. The only thing they haven't developed is an escape rocket to pull the Dragon off the rocket if it explodes. They've told NASA that they can do that for $100million (chump change in NASA terms). Just imagine that we could have an entirely new manned vehicle for only $1.1billion.

BTW, the Space Shuttle can carry 7 astronauts to the space station but it cost $1billion per flight (estimated). Space X has stated that they can fly 7 folks to the station for only $30Million per flight. Sounds like a bargain. Heck, the Russians are charging $50million and they only carry three people at the very most.

Somebody get pics! I didn't think you would be able to see shit, because it launches out over the Atlantic.
Scrubbed again due to faulty fuel valve.
