Semi Auto Home Defense Shotgun

I was recently robbed and have since moved and am waiting on a check from renters insurance. They stole my badass home defense shotgun so now I am in the market for a new one. I had an older style Winchester 1300 defender with the wooden forend. It had a side saddle, tac light, and several other accesories. I am wanting to move to a semi auto home defense shotgun but have never owned a semi auto shotty and want some opinions. I don't want to spend more than $700 any suggestions?

Mossberg 930 SPX should spend less than your target budget.

I have one and love it, cheaper than a Benelli and so far cycles everything from light game to magnum buckshot. The round of choice for the house is the Federal Reduced Recoil Buckshot.

If you go looking at the SPX though make sure to check front sight post alignment. They have been known to be canted to the left in some cases.

Mossberg also has a 930 combo 12ga. It comes with two barrels an 18.5" home defense and a 26" (?) vent ribbed game barrel.
Thanks I will check it out. How many rounds does it hold?
get that saiga 12ga(looks kinda like an ak to me), think it holds 10, looks mean. have them here at local gun store for about $500

What gun store do they have that at for 500?

I bought one from the Mesquite Rodeo gun show for $475 new. Usually see them in gun stores for $600+.
If I was to buy right now I'd get a mossberg 50665.

I think the mossberg will suit me just fine. I am going to the next gun show and probably going to get one and add accessories such as a light, side saddle, etc. I am going to make this a home defense shotgun with very little recoil I will use the federal low recoil rounds. I am considering a reocil reducing stock from blackhawk. Anyone have any experience with one?

Another consideration should be a short barrel Remington 1100 fitted with an extended mag tube and a pistol grip. They make a magnum version as well
Oh really the only thing I didn't like about the 1100 is last time I looked at one it was barely used but had rust already on the gun. Which I know it comes down to proper maintenance and also could be a bad finish. How much are the 1100's running now?

i have the blackhawk stock on my 870. its very nice and reduces the recoil quite a bit.
Does the 870 feed low reocil rounds? I just found out the Mossberg 930 SPX does not feed the rounds.
I would buy a Benelli or Remington, myself. Stay away from a Mossberg, Saiga, and the like. You might pay more, but can you put a price on the safety of your family/property? Just my .02 cents, for what its worth.

Some semi-auto shotguns have trouble with low recoil rounds unless they are tweaked. (which you usually don't want to do because then they have troubles with magnum loads)

Pump shotguns - like the 870 or the mossberg 590 - don't have those issues.
Ah I see. Well now I have to determine if i want a pump with low recoil round for home defense or a semi auto. Thanks for all the info guys I will post some pics once i get it and add all the accesories.
