I don't know why this is getting a lot of attention, but it is. Some guy on the brad barnett forums is posting up what he claims is real information on the 2011 Mustang. For some reason, this thread is getting a lot of play on the car blogs. If true, the 2011 Mustang is going to be really kick ass. Especially interesting is the V6..

You can read the entire thread here:

* 3.7L V6 to be rated at 315 horsepower: Same as 2010 GT; 15 hp more than Camaro V6
* No immediate plans for EcoBoost V6 Mustang due to small horsepower gap between EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 (365 vs 400)
* 2011 Mustang GT to be rated at 400 horsepower, will get increase in 2012
* 2011 Mustang GT to get 6-speed transmission and variable valve timing
* 2011 Mustang GT Track Pack to include Brembo brakes
* 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L V8, 6-speed, track pack, Brembo brakes ran even with 414-hp BMW M3, which is 200 lbs lighter, at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan
* 2011 Shelby GT500 to get Aluminum Block
* Next special edition: 2012 Boss
The site owner asked that any further information be posted in the "paid" forums. I do know that past info on the 2011 had to be removed at Ford's request. Who the fuck knows. This guy could be legit or full of shit. That said, everything he said sounds very plausible. I've already heard the stories of the 5.0 racking a BMW M3, so thats not new. A Shelby GT500 with an Aluminum block? About damn time. I wonder how much weight that is going to shed.

If any of this is true, I will seriously consider the V6 for my next car. Frankly my 2006 GT had plenty of power for me. I'm sure I can handle a 400hp Mustang but I'd never really get to use all that power. But it will be nice to see Mustang GTs beating the Camaro in pretty much every aspect. Hell it doesn't even need an IRS to get better ride and handling, it does that with the SRA.

Now if Ford would only change up those taillights.

I'm not holding my breath. The taillights are still killing the entire car, though the front treatment is growing on me.
The BMW thing was done with a 2010 Mustang GT "Track Pack". They asked that the brakes get beefed up, which if they come with brembos for 2011?

I just don't know. The taillights were not that big of a deal to me to begin with. I'm sure the aftermarket is going to fix them anyways. I would prefer them to be solid red with just a single white bar (just like the '05-'09). The overall shape of the rear is an improvement IMO.

The front just needs one thing to make it perfect. The bars separating the grill from the headlights needs to be body color instead of black, just like they are on the V6. The front grill of the Shelby GT500 is perfection and shouldn't be touched...

If I go for a GT, I'll have to wait a couple more years because I've got the child adoption thing going on, but I think I can wing the new V6 next year, due to the lower payment. I guess I'll have to drive them both and decide. For me, Ford fixed the Mustangs biggest problem when they redid the interior. IMO that is is as close to perfect as it needs to be.

I definetly agree about the interior. It looks fantastic. I've still only seen a handful on the road and haven't gotten to really look one over in person yet. Kind of funny. When the 99s and 05s came out I was on a lot within a day or two looking them over. Guess it just doesn't have the draw for me like it used to.

Maybe because the exterior design changes were not that dramatic.
For cost reasons the 3.7 V6 from Lincoln makes a lot of sense. That would put them right on par with the Camaro for those that think it needs to be.

Ford Rep did confirm the 5.0L btw.
I really like the 2010 Mustang, the more I see it, the more I like it. The tail lights do take some getting used to, but they look good at night. I'm really anxious to see how the 5.0 will perform, and what the HP figures will be like. The V6 finally sounds like a decent engine, about time Ford stepped up and didn't put a gutless engine in the entry level Mustang. I still would love to see an ecoboot V6, just to see how mod friendly they would be, and what power you could get out of one with some simple upgrades... maybe make a special edition SVO with the ecoboost V6 and an IRS.
A 400 hp 32 valve Gt with a six speed makes my pee pee hard. As long as a reasonably optioned car doesn't cost $35K dollars, I'll be a tire kicker.
Still no word on HID lights? :(
Still have them, doubt they'll be standard though.

You will probably be able to get it optioned for $35K or more but I'm betting a very base GT is still going to run a one to two thousand south of $30K.

With the current GT Premium, you would have go get the track pack, SYNC, and NAV in order to scratch that $35K number.

x2 I would definatly get one
Bleh. Just throwing more power at a car that handles like shit, heavy as hell and looks like a donk machine with aftermarket wheels and will no doubt cost WAY too much.
Cool to hear things are getting more juice, especially in this economic climate. I don't mind the tail lights so much, but the back bumper and front fascia still bugs the crap out of me. I'll take an 05-09 with the 5.0 swapped in please.

What? It's among the best handling Mustangs ever, and the most powerful GT ever offered. I also question your "donk machine" angle, but I suppose that's somewhat subjective.

Do you have anything real to criticize?

The styling of the 2011 Mustang isn't expected to change much the current 2010 model.

Google 2010 Mustang, the '11 will look the same, just different engine under the hood.

I'd love to get one but I can't justify spending that much on a car, I'll wait till they hit the preowned lot. lol
