I have been wanting some oak to smoke with on the smoker. Where can you buy it from? ( naturally I don't need much) TIA

My neighbor has an oak tree that you're more than welcome to cut down! I encourage it, actually that way I won't have to spend 4-two hour sessions outside raking leaves this year.

I appreciate the offer. But I am using an electric smoker. I just need a couple of sticks of it, and I don't have a chain saw.
Walmart sells it in chunks and chips. At least my local one does.

What are you smoking (besides the gonja)?

Certain meats smoke better with different wood. I personally don't like oak for smoking. Pecan, mesquite, hickory & apple wood are my favs.

Of course, you'd have to go find a place to purchase them close to you, but it might be a better idea.

^^ What he said. I like pecan the best or mesquite. Most any fruit tree would be a good choice.
Maybe lawn and garden, don't really know just tossing out ideas
I would check the park there in Burleson ,I'm sure there is a few sticks laying around ...
From what I've noticed, oak isn't worth a shit when smoking food. There's a reason nobody else uses it.
Pecan is awsome. You will never look at Ham the same again. Academy has almost all the flovors in chips or smaller pieces.
I get nice wood (ha ha) from academy $15.00 pecan, oak, hickory.
I have a ton on the side of the house. Cut down a few trees a couple months ago. Small sticks too. If you're ever going to be near Euless shoot me a PM.

Nobody around here sells it. Hickory, mesquite are easy to get. On a side note after I left I went hunting for an oak on my way to work. Did not find one, but I did find a flat tire.:frown:
PM me your address and ill UPS you some-seriously.

Used all of those. In fact I have a bag of each on my back porch. But a brisket smoked with oak is my favorite. I actually found a tree blown over during the last storm. Broke some limbs off and will figure out how to chip it up for the smoker.
Try home depot, they have a few diff kinds of smoking wood. The one in mansfield has/had oak

Just go buy a hatchet.. Sawzall or jig saw should work too. Just watch those fingers.

Actually you would be surprised how many BBQ joints use it. It is a taste preference and not every one is going to like it. But to each his own. I am just wanting to try something different than what I have been using. Had some last weekend that a buddy did, and it was one of the best briskets I have ever tasted.
