PS3 Advice

Got my new ps3 80 gig Thursday. Thanks to the post someone did on the price drop. I have been waiting for that for a while.

Anyways, I am just seeing if anybody has any tips on tweaking it. I got the wi-fi set up and some games. Just curious if anyone wants to share what they have learned on it.

TIA

besides the fact you should have waited for the new one???

make sure you find the PS3 thread and add everyone...
Just got my ps3 recently too, still trying to figure out everything. Really wanting to stream movies with it, just not sure how yet?
First off, go get you a nice size SATA laptop hard drive (250gig or bigger) and replace yours with it. Might as well do it now before you start storing game profiles, demos etc.

Second as far as streaming is concerned I just set my PS3 up last night to stream porn, errrr movies from my laptop to my PS3. Here is a nice walkthrough that helped solve some issues I was having. Its real easy. Oh and go to settings/system settings on your PS3 and enable WMV playback so those files can be played as well.

PS3 Media Server FTMFW
Will stream everything except VC-1 format(Bluray). I use that to stream pics/vids/music/movies(DVD & BluRay except the above).

Another program is TVersity. It's pretty good too.

Now do these programs stream what files you already have on your computer, or do these sites have music/movies/etc you can watch for free?
I'm using the wireless connection on my PS3 can I still use these?

Yes, you just point the program to whatever folder(s) you want to stream from.

TVersity has some stuff on there, but I've never messed with it. PS3MS something like that as well. Haven't messed with that either. I always stream what I have.

YES....If you plan on streaming bluray in future, wireless might be cutting it to close.

I also setup the browser on ps3 to automatically go to Pandora.com when I want to listen to music on internet.
ps3 media sever for sure!

works much better than tversity on the ps3 as it should.
I gotta try PS3 media server. Rafa mentioned that to me the other day and I forgot about it last night.

One thing I did notice and I dont think it matters what the software is, if you are trying to stream over wifi dont count on being able to fast foward or rewind easily as it will lag real bad. I hooked a ethernet cable to my laptop last night to test with and it worked better.

I need to just break down and convert my unused PC to a HTPC and leave it next to the A/V cabinet hardwired with all the media on it.
