My smog pump started whining the other day. I was thinking of taking it off and puting a eliminator bracket in. What all do I have to take off, will I notice any difference in power.

The smog pump is held on w/2 bolts i believe. Pretty straigt forward. Just jack the car up and take a look underneath. You don't need an eliminator bracket to run w/out it. You will also need a short belt. Don't expect to feel a diff. but it can't hurt. Also, make sure to plug and cap your air hoses that hook up to the pump or remove them entirely.

Doesnt the belt hit something when just removing the pump? I thought i tried that on mine, when i had one, but it was hitting something where the pump previously had mounted too??

I just cant remember why i actually put back on the stupid pump, maybe it was b/c i had to buy a new belt and that was more than the pump..

I figured i was just too cheap to buy the belt or maybe i was too lazy to plug up the hoses that went into the head or wherever...

This was on a speed density car, wonder if that makes a difference..

I just cant imagine why I would put a smog pump back on.
