The arrow that is printed on the shaft goes toward the OP.
i didnt see if mine had an arrow i just pulled that image off of yahoo, but it should all be the same right, the end with the stop goes to the pump
thanks bro
If it is for a 351, you need to make sure it does not bottom in the distributor. ARP had a BUNCH of problems with the hex portion of the top part bieng too short and bottoming in the distributor.

Next, the clip on the shaft goes towards the distributor - it keeps the shaft from falling out of the block, or falling into the lifter valley if you turn the motor over (on an engine stand).

If it is not an ARP drive rod, the clip is the only reference and it goes towards the distributor.
I stand corrected. That is right! Dam, I need to go back to bed.

The beveled end of the shaft makes it easier to mate the dist. up to the shaft.

You had it right - I just added to it. IIRC, not all rods have that tapered end.

no you two are saying too diffrent things, he is saying that the stop goes towards the oil pump and you are saying that the stop goes towards the distributor, so which one is it?

It goes towards the dist., the clip keeps the shaft in place (most of the time) when the motor is flipped. If there is no clip, the pointed end goes towards the dist.

Sorry about the confusion.
Simple huh

the clip goes betwen the oil pump and the block boss above it to keep the shaft from pulling out with the dist or falling out when the block is upside down without the dist in place.
Like others have said, always check the length with it installed. I've seen them both too short and too long.

LOL, I thought you typed "UP" not "OP". :D
