New Tires on my Dodge 2500

Truck is a stock 06' Mega 4x4. I drive a lot of hwy with it, tow a boat and a car trailer fairly often in the summer months....it tows my Chaparral Car trailer to Colorado ~2 times per year fully loaded with ATVs. I do take the truck offroad a fair amount....mostly trail type stuff, and loose rocky mountain stuff every time we go to Colorado...also gets in some mud time-to-time....but nothing too extreme.

What I'm getting to is that I need a tire that does a little of everything pretty well, but doesn't totally kill my MPG, and I also want something a little bigger and perhaps more aggressive looking than the original BFG's that are on it now....they just look puny to me. I'm also planning to do a good level kit in the near future (a real kit like Kore or Carli, not just pucks on the springs).

After reading some stuff on the net (but really didn't find too much), I decided to try out the ProComp Xtreme AT's in a 305/65-17. However, my dealer called this afternoon to tell me that 2 of the 4 were bad...apparently wouldn't balance. He said that they quit adding weight at 12oz! Shortly after he called another Dodge guy that a recently befriended happened to call, and when I told him about it he warned to stay far away from the ProComps...said that his truck developed the Death Wobble only 3 days after installing a set....he made discount trade them back for better tires and never had the wobble again.

Nevertheless, my dealer is telling me that he's pretty sure his tire guy will exchange these back for a different set now too, so I'm looking at perhaps going to the Toyo AT's....in the 285/75-17....which would be great b/c they'll be a little taller than what I was planning anyway. I also thought about the Toyo MT's in 295/70-17, which are great looking tires, but thinking they may be a little too aggressive for my needs, and also probably not going to last like the AT's (I drive ~25K a year on it).

Anyways, I did some searching on the Dodge forums....tires seem to be a popular subject, but thought I would put up a new post in a few places too. I've had good luck with the BFG's in the past, but seems there are quite a few dissat with them in a couple other forums I go to. Nittos Terra Grapplers seem to be heavily recommended too, however I refuse to buy another set of Nitto anythings....had a real bad experience with my Wife's car and Nitto tires...bad enough that I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy....terrible customer service, and having hell trying to get them to warranty defective (apparently oval shaped) tires.

.....Forgot to mention one of the most important parts - I need an E-Load Range tire too.

Im running Nitto Tera Grapplers on my truck.

Next set will be a set of their Dura Grapplers.

They make a good truck tire.

Yeah, there seem to be a lot of guys happy with them on the Dodge forums, but it's just a personal thing with me. If someone screws me I'm not going to take them any more business.

They totally blew me off when I needed help with the NT420's on my wife's car....going straight to Nitto was pointless, they wouldn't even give me the time of day to at least listen to the issues I was having. 5 months later and the car is shaking so bad I won't even drive it....looks my only option is going to be to buy another set of tires for it and throw these $800 paper weights in the trash.
Toyos rock your face!

Great tire, almost no weight to balance the 325/70/17s I had, the tire guy was actually suprised how little it took. I had them on the truck for about 25k~ miles, and they werent even half tread yet, rode well, great wet weather traction, still good offroad(for the few times I went)
The Pro Comp XATs in 37x12.50x17 I had took a bunch of weight to balance, but the were used and probably werent rotated evenly much, still.
For whatever reason too, some guys arent getting as many miles out of Nittos vs the Toyos even though theyre basically the same company, the Nittos seem to be a little softer and wear a little quicker, still same tread though on the terra graps and Toyo ATs.

The 285/75s would be a perferct choice for a 4wd w/3.73s, I honestly didnt lose any fuel mileage going from the stock 31s to 35s, hell even to 37s, I lost more fuel mileage from the lift.
I wouldnt get the MTs unless you'd use them, great tire but almost a waste.
I'm running goodyear mt/r's. I like them, they handle well, aren't incredibly noisy, and seem to hold up to miles pretty good. The back ones are getting thin, and I am contemplating running the TOYOs on the next go round.

I run BFG Rugged Trail on the rear of my dually, and BFG Comercial on the front. The rugged trails are load rated and work great on the rear, and the comercials wear really well on the front. I had some strange wear on the front with the rugged trails all the way around, but nothing so far with the comercials after 8-10,000 miles on them. My truck is a single cab 2wd w/flatbed, welding machine, torch bottles, tools... ect. ect. and weighs just over 10K at all times. The rugged trails are by no means a "mud tire", but they do fine with the normal pasture/jobsite mudholes, and DONT make road noise like alot of A/T tires.

How did those 325 Toyo's do on your stock wheels? (Seems I remember you had them on the stock ones, no?) The AT's look like a pretty good tire, and the 285/75 should not only fit nice on the stock wheel, but also get me some decent height over the stockers.....their website shows them to be almost 34", which I'm thinking won't look too puny once I get a Kore or Carli leveling kit on it. I like the fact that they are still an E-Range too.

My truck has the rugged trails on it from stock...I used to have them on my old dually too. No real complaint at all on them, they seem to be a good all around tire, but they just don't offer them in the size I'm looking for.

Something I always liked about them....you can get 60K out of them as long as you are good about rotating them. They are pricey, but I think you get what you pay for on those too.
I'd do bfg at's. Expensive, but they'll last the longest out if the tires mentioned
I have the BFG 315's on mine. They are only d rated though. I ran the first set for 35k then sold them for several hundred with 40% tread left. I pretty much stole the current ones when Ebay had 35% cashback with buy it now.
With the bigger tire a d rated tire is okay. The weight the tire can handle is what matters, not the ply rating. A 315/70/17 d load range is gonna be able to carry about as much as a 265/70/17 loadrange e

Both show 3195lbs. Just different max psi.
I've got BFG 35's on my 06. 55K on them and still have another 10k or so left. I bought them on ebay. Hummer takeoffs, not may miles. 550 shipped to the house. I run Dyna beads in my M/C tires. I know that they started with RV and truck tires. They balance the shit out of anything.

;) my point exactly
Going to try for the Toyo AT's if I can get them to switch them out and take the ProComps back.....however, I have a feeling that they are having a problem with that b/c the Advisor was supposed to call first thing this morning to confirm....I still haven't heard from him, and I left him a msg a little while ago too.

Suppose I should have just gone to Discount, but they actually offered a better price at the dealership and I sort of needed them pronto (had a tire go bad on the way to drop it off - yeah I've had awesome luck with this truck ).

On a side note, it's been at the dealer for just over 2 weeks now....Chrysler sent an Engineer out to oversee the electrical repair on it. The harness issue that I diagnosed was confirmed to be the problem all along, so they had to put a new harness in it....which is evidently a real bitch to do. I'm anxious to get it back.

I'm interested in these things....if I buy some, should I just add them in addition to the weights that are already there, or do you typically remove wheel weights when you add the Dyna Beads?
I ended up with Nitto Terra Grappler 305/70/17 (34X12.50) on my Superduty. Descent price and load range E 10 ply 3650lb load rating. I pull a 14K lb FIVER So I wanted the extra weight capacity. They are quiet, handle well and no ill effects other than I lost 1mpg.

I loved them, nice and quiet, weared evenly and I never really checked the pressure or stayed on top of rotating them either...
Good thing about the 285/75 is they probably wont rub the control arms at full lock like the 325s did(no damage to the tire or control arm, just kind of annoying in a tight parking lot)

Between Kore and Carli, Carli gets my vote, or even hit up Don Thuren and hell set up something perfect for your truck, since you tow as well...
