doesnt look like you can get a puller on that. Im thinking BFH :smashfreakB:
Polar or grizzly? How do I get this off? The bear in the center is the only thing keeping this on the stearing shaft? I need it off for now! PLease help?
See pic!
92' coupe is the car
I pulled the snap ring out already. There is a threaded section on the stearing shaft its sitting on. NOt really threaded but groved for it to slide on to.Run some steel wire around the back side of it in two lengths (forming a cross, or "X" shape).
Get a heat gun and heat the bearing on all sides, focusing on the ID. Hair dryer might work but heat gun works best. Pull wire as you are heating. If the bearing is shielded, or has seals, you'll probably melt them and have to replace the bearing.
Also, I can't tell from the pic, but there might be a snap ring holding it in place!?
Let me know if you need help finding the bearing.

whats that U shaped thing? when all else fails try google!
yes was a snap ring. ONLY tool(have most everything I need) I didnt have so had to buy one last night to get it off.its hard to tell, and its been a while...isnt there a snap ring in front of it? did you already remove it? grab the housing and pull...oh, and im pretty sure the lock cylinder has to come out first
Yes. Just try to get the numbers off of it before damaging it. They'll be on the steel insert/race on the side.If I beat and break it off, can this bearing be replaced?
Thinking about just pulling the whole column so I dont have to tear it up...Yes. Just try to get the numbers off of it before damaging it. They'll be on the steel insert/race on the side.
Tell me what they are and I'll tell you if it's readily available. Also, I'm sure there's a Ford tech in here somewhere () that can get one from the dealer.

Pulled the cyc. still no.the race is part of the housing, bearings should be readily avail for the 92. im pretty sure the cylinder has to come out to remove the hsg...The upper bearing is an f23z-a and still avail. the lower isnt. its been obsoleted (but they dont wear as bad) Housings are disco'd also...remove the lock cyl and pull up on the housing. thats all you have to do.
pm'd ya of courseIt appears that bearing is a press fit and will have to be either pressed off with a a press, or "sweated" off with a heat source. It's (bearing) not a sealed bearing so you should be able to heat it up without damage. I'm also guessing that it's not very expensive either, if you were to damage it.
Do you have a heat gun? Where are you located? I have one you could borrow if needed.

can you find out if I can even get this bearing in the pic? Is this the upper your talking about? can you let me know the price?the race is part of the housing, bearings should be readily avail for the 92. im pretty sure the cylinder has to come out to remove the hsg...The upper bearing is an f23z-a and still avail. the lower isnt. its been obsoleted (but they dont wear as bad) Housings are disco'd also...remove the lock cyl and pull up on the housing. thats all you have to do.

Ah, down the road from my liquer store!
Can you get that rubber boot off? The heat might melt it if you get too close.
I get home around 4 and can meet you after that. I can also bring it by and lend a hand but can only stay for a short time.
Let me know.
David
lolAlso let me know what type you drink from the Liquor store right down the street.
The least I can do is buy you a small amount!
THANKS AGAIN!
