IT certification question

A co-worker at my new job told me about a website "community" that once you became a member of would give you access to good study material for certifications and what not. He also stated that they even provide you with a code of some sort that would give you free and/or discounts for Dell certifications. Any truth to this? He said his buddy was able to take 10 FREE Dell test online over a weekend and received the certification confirmation instantly.

Any input or links would be GREATLY appreciated.

Why would you want a Dell certification?

The only forum/place I know of that is a community and you can "get" stuff is...

Why not just ask the co-worker? I have nothing else useful to provide to this thread, besides the fucking obvious.

Could have been talking about Brainbench (http://www.brainbench.com/). Decent practice tests but their certs are worthless. These days, I barely even look at an applicants certs. Too many good "learners" out there, I'm more worried about what you can actually do.

His buddy was the one who actually visited the site...he was going to ask him the actual address.

Thanks for the link...are you a hiring manager? I understand what you mean about what the applicant can actually do but my problem is getting to the actual interview due to the lack of experience. I feel like if I were to have certs, it would give me a better chance of proving what I can do.

What SonicBlue says about brainbench is 100% true. With certification study guides out there it is not even useful as a practice exam. Hell, when I did not know crap I could pass their exams. Don't bother with Brainbench.

Get your own gear and build your scenarios. I have lots of access to gear at work, so I don't have to make the personal investment right now, however, I still plan on building my own lab environment. Augment your lab with taking tests.

The principals of how to develop and support a solution are what certification is supposed to be all about. Actually taking the time to pass the tests does set the cert holder apart from those that haven't, IMO. At my particular company, having them is a good thing. I've been asked to work on internal projects by our engineering team because of holding certs, and that's good for me as our eng team is expanding.

I passed 2 years of Spanish in high-school, but I can't speak Spanish; never applied the principals.
