I'm about the strip out my interior for a cage install and was thinking about converting to black while i have it out. I think a black interior on a gray car with a matching gray cage would look sweet.
So far i just have some black sparcos. lol

Is it really that hard?

1. I'd like to use what i have as much as possible so do the dies work good?
2. How about the flex interior paint. The expensive stuff. I used some on my explorer door and it came out really good. I just dont know if will last.

If the die and/or paint is a go then i should just have to buy some cloth rear seats, carpet, and some door panels since they have carpet on them right?
For all that have done this, can you give me some do's and dont's and some pointers. Thanks, Greg

Ask Lane about the interior paint he used on his LS1 swap car. It came out looking good. Do a search in the racing bench and you'll find the post with the pics. I think he even painted the door panels, carpet on them and all.

The paint you need is made by SEM. You can buy it at English Color. It is not a dye and is the same stuff used by Ford to color their plastic pieces that start off black.

I used SEM Plastic Prep first to dull the plastic/vinyl and to remove any contamination

Then I used SEM Landau Black interior paint. The stuff is sweet. It leaves all of the texture in the plastic and leaves a factory color that is exactly the same as a new car. PM me if you need more info about it or how to apply it. I have done several pieces for people on the board. Dashes, center consoles etc...

I did mine from grey to black...
pointers.. You need original armrest and the molding on the door
they take alot of abuse and paint comes of there first

Use alcohol and steel wool
let dry and paint
go over 4 times
and its like permanent

Comes out better than original black interior

I used the SEM stuff on the explorer pieces i did. I can get that stuff from my friends paint shop.
I have an armrest delete so the only really high traffic area would be the door pad. I hope i can find some good black door panels.

Another concern is the head liner. Am i going to have to rip it out or is there some way to paint or die that while its still on??

you can probably mask that off and dye it while it is on there, otherwise, i can get you the fabric for the headliner, all you gotta do is scrape it off and cut the new stuff to fit, tack it down with some spray adhesive, and you are good to go

SEM Landau Black is the color i will be going with. Not to shinny, not to dull.(looks stock) I bought the plastic and vinyl cleaners too.
I just took all the interior out except for the dash. I wish i could post a pic, however it will not let you upload new pics right now.

i would post up some progress, however i cant add any pics to my image file. Its full and its not letting me delete any.

I got half of the stuff finished already and it looks really good! I have to go get some more of the SEM paint. Im waiting on the paint shop to match my paint too, so i can paint the cage. :)
