Idle Problem???

343 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  71chevellejohn
Alright so I had an 87 lx with a 347 stroker in it. The system required a mass air flow sensor. I bought an 88GT that had a much better body condition so I decided to get someone to swap all my stuff over to the GT but the GT does not have the wiring for the mass air flow sensor so now its idleing up and down. The engine also has 30lbs injectors and the computer from the lx is programed for them but it wont work with the wiring of the GT because of the mass air sensor detail, it makes it run real rough. Anybody have any sugestions out there. Thanks.

Man Just go with a carburetor conversion and be done with it
I'll have to make sure cause I baught the car already built but it looks like GT40 heads, GT 40 intake, and I know for sure it has a small cam. How does this effect it? As far as the carb, no thanks. I like fuel injection. Thanks.
To start you have to much injector that combo if that is what it is would only need 24lbs injectors.
When the system was on the lx it was running real good and the only thing that realy has changed is the absence of the mass air flow sensor. It does have a fuel regulator wich i think got messed with when the swap was done. It run ok on the highway and also on take of but it wont idle right and it has lost some power. All input is greatly apreciated.
Both of those cars were originally speed density cars.

When you had whoever pull the running gear out of the 87, they should have pulled the wiring harness/ecm/mass-air meter and installed it in the 88 that way you keep your mass-air setup. If you don't have the 87 anymore, you can buy a mass-air conversion for the 88. That will help with the running problems.

I've got a brand new conversion harness(from LMRS) and a used A9L that I will not be using since I went with an aftermarket EFI control system.

+1 on the injectors being too big.
Sent you a PM, How much for the harness? Is it hard to install it? I have my old A9L that is programed for the 30lb injectors so I would be using that. Can you send me a picture of the harness at this email?

Late model resto's harness is from Pro-M racing, it can be seen here:

I don't think it is that hard, but it does require re-pinning a few of the EEC-IV connectors. If you look at the zoomed in picture on Pro-M's site you can kinda read the instructions. Or they can be found online.
