how loud will it be?

400 pontiac engine, 1-5/8" full length ceramic coated headers with 3" collector, 3" exhaust piping, h-pipe, 3" flowmaster two chamber mufflers, no cats ofcourse

i'm going with the hpipe because i dont like the sound of xpipes (even though they are quieter and make more top end power) and i'm going with flowmaster because they are still my favorite sounding for most engines.

just wondering if this will be way too loud for a street cruiser. i don't want too much attention from cops. i know the 2.5" flowmaster kit would give the perfect sound level for me, but i don't know what the 3" kit would sound like. and because of the flowmaster muffler flow numbers, i need the 3" kit. how much louder is 3" exhaust over 2.5" exhaust?

thanks!

Its going to be loud, not race car loud but definitely you will want a loud stereo.

damn, this is scaring me... it pisses me off that i have to go to a 3" muffler to get flowmaster sound and not kill my hp.

i'm still interested in what others will say.
On my fox gt I ran super comp LT hooker headers 1 3/4 a pro chamber h pipe and 2 chamber flowmasters. It was very loud. Sound bad ass but It got really annoying when I was driving it daily. I was dumped though.
Dumped or all the way out the back?
all the way out back

hmm ok thanks. i wont be dumped but that won't help the exterior noise.

Wont help the exterior noise ?
Have you ever heard the difference between a car with dumps and tips ?

The dumps sound awesome idling, even at cruising speeds, but the fumes will kill you sitting at a red light. If you're gonna have your exhaust running all the way out the back, you'll be fine. It wont be too loud..

Also consider the Deltaflow Flowmaster. Its a little more expensive but not as loud as a series 40 flowmaster.

what i meant was that having tailpipes (versus dumps) decreases the interior sound but the exterior sound is the same with tailpipes and dumps. the kit comes with the deltaflow 40 series. i guess if its too loud, i'll suffer a little more on performance and weld in some 3 chambers but if i have to buy more mufflers that makes for an expensive exhaust system.
An x-pipe on a 400 Pontiac is a waste anyway. That engine, with the stock 3.875" stroke won't hit high enough RPMs to warrant the use of it.
it'll be loud... X pipe w/ chambered mufflers just screams so nice... shame you don't like it :(
