I just purchased the Auto Meter mechanical water temp guage and I am having problems getting it installed. I took off the upper intake and removed the rear plug to insert the temp tube into the lower intake, but the damn fitting is too large. Do have to get an adapter or not? If so, can I get one at a hardware store? Please help.

you should not have had to pull the upper intake off to put it on. You are going to have to get an adapter for it. I believe that you can get one at Home Depot. I think you need an 1/8". Right now I think it is 1/4". I hope this helps you.

You really need 3/8 npt male to 1/2 straight female. I have baught these at O'reily they are brass and are in a pack of four diferent fittings.

Get the brass not the iron ones. Home depot,Lowes sell both. 3/8 to 1/2 reducers.
