High side PS hose

So I needed to replace the high side PS hose on my 93 and I managed to get the old one off, but I can't get the threads started on the rack side of the new one. Is there a trick? I did not need to pull the rack off (it was tight and a PITA, but I managed) to remove the original hose. Is there a trick? Does the rack need to come off to get the new one on? Help a brotha, please.
