Ecclesiastes -- How should I respond to this book?

I have been caught up in the book of Ecclesiastes.

I can't stop reading it, it is one off the few books I can read straight through and never break or pause, either mentally or physically.

It perfectly sums up my response to life, especially life today as we know it.....
go to school, get a job, get a wife, get a house and keep the lawn nice, have kids, go to practices, make more money, hide all your problems by keeping your lawn nice and smiling at church, work work work to have a bunch of crap that 1. either will not make you happy but temporarily or 2. you are always working so you can't even use it...

I am so caught up on this book I feel like throwing in the Towel....
what should my response be to this?

All seem futile to me.

To me its trying to find balance with everything. If there's something in your life you would like to change or improve on, do so at your own steady pace. The fact that your taking time to read your bible and meditating on making it your own IMO is the right start.
It also says in that book that time and chance happens to them all. No man can decide his time. I believe it's ecclesiastes 9:11 and 12.

this shares a meaning in my life...My brother was in flight school and also studying to be a pastor. I wasn't nearly as close in my faith. Well a few days after my 18th birthday my brother was killed in a car wreck by a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol. After cleaning his room we saw that he had those scriptures framed.

Thats when the "time and chance" message really comes into play. He was a much better person than I was, but somehow he got killed by the druged up bitch. I didn't really respond well...something about telling a childrens group that their teacher (my brother) wouldn't be there today because he was killed in an accident just didn't sit too well with me.

Fast forward a few years - Me and some friends are on our way back from the clubhouse headed towards fry street ready to keep the party going strong. Well my friend loses control on 35 and somehow doesn't get hit despite spinning all over 35 in front of a semi and multiple other cars. This is when the "time and chance" part of the passage really kicked in. Now it's tattooed on my ribcage.

Basically it reminds me to live my life to the fullest. I can't decide when it will end, nor can I decide how. But I can dictate what I am doing at the present.

I've been working on this myself. Not only do these things not mean anything to me when it really comes down to it, but it makes me more insensitive towards God if I put my attention towards other things. It is easy to get caught up in the mix if my heart isn't focus'd on God.

Mathew 6 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Solomon gives the answer --> Ecc. 12 - Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Live with honor, be just to all men, believe in something larger than yourself.
