Depending on your instructor and the attendance of the "what if..." crowd, it could take the full time alloted. AHA CPR classes are presented almost entirely by DVD now with time built in to "practice" the skills. You do not need any text books. I do lunch breaks, then typically test on the skills and finish with the written. Finally, depending on the instructor, you should leave there with a card... Congrats and Good Luck...Anybody taking this? I have it Friday from 8am-5pm. Does it really last all day? Do I need any textbooks? Lastly...lunch break?
Gonna take the EMT course next semester and hopefully the fire tech course the following. Wanted to do the EMT this semester but I found out there's a bunch of stuff you have to do before being accepted (vaccinations and stuff). So I'm gonna do all of that stuff this semester and enroll during early registration to make sure I get a spot.
Anybody else picked this route with their career? I'm looking forward to it. By total coincidence my best friend actually went to Austin Community College to look into the same thing on the same day that I checked out TCC. It was weird. Neither of us had mentioned anything about it to eachother prior to going.
Go to paramedic school (after EMT) if you want to do this as a career. You will open many more doors and be able to work at nicer cities fire departments. Nothing wrong with working somewhere like Irving, but working in Southlake or Keller would be nicer. More pay, less calls. Most fire departments have their firefighters crosstrained as medics. Lots of cities these days wont hire you without a current EMT and a contract to finish and pass your medic certification.Anybody taking this? I have it Friday from 8am-5pm. lol... we have a contract company that does ACLS/BLS/CPR/PALS and their classes are great. A CPR renewal is about 4 minutes long, ACLS is 4hrs.Good Lord that's a long ass CPR class.
Thanks man. Good luck with your endeavor!I'm taking EMT-B at Hill currently. I plan on going into the Fire Academy after finishing my Paramedic. Good choice man...
