(bored) 21,900 lb trailer to haul thru mountains- what's your tow rig?
bored here this weekend, thought id throw this out for chatter. you have to tow a 21,900 lb trailer from denver to san fran. What tow vehicle (exact specs) do you choose? (only thing is it cannot be a tractor (ie freightliner, peterbilt), must be a smaller class truck like dodge, ford, chevy, etc) trailer has a 3k lb 5th wheel hitch weight.

wow, a gasser? think it could handle it up/down the mountain passes?
I'd be more worried about the 1/2 ton being able to stop the load if it could get it going.
Hell is that even legally scaled?
i dont think that 1/2 ton is rated that high for a trailer that big.
my tow rig would be a 2009 Dodge 4500 HD 4X4, 6 Speed Auto, 6.7 Cummins, 4.44 Ratio.
an f450 would be just fine
I've pulled more than that with an 04 Dodge 3500, 05 Dodge 3500, 05 Chevy Duramax, 06 F-350 and 07.5 Dodge 3500.
Gimme the 06 Ford with the 04 cummins between the front fenders.

I'd just hook it to the dually and let it rip...
I wouldnt be scared to hook it to my 06 Cummins 4x4 auto with the Diablosport tow tune.

Dodge 3500 would haul that just fine, be easier with a 6spd to drop down a gear or so when going up a grade to keep the revs/power up...
