bonded car title question

232 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  GotTorque?
I am looking at doing a bonded title for a car. My question is on the cost to do the bond. My agent told me he thought it was something like $15 per 1k value, but now tells me theres a $100 min and a $30 agency fee. I am not looking to spend that much money the car. anyone know if the bond "minimum" is a mandated cost or I could shop around at different agencies?

I wanna say my 95 F150's bonded title cost me around 4-5 hundred. But I got it for 500.00 so I was only out 1k for a truck I have been driving for 3 years with no problems. You will just have to weigh out how much you are gonna have in it, and is it worth it. Oh and my F150 also came out of OK, so it cost me a little more.
thanks for the info. I only paid a couple hundred for the car and hate to double it just for the car which needs A LOT of work. the state values the car at 1100 bucks in running condition so my agent originally though it would be 30-40 bucks. now its jumped to 130. Just making sure theres not a better deal out there

Who's your agent?

They must not normally do bonds if not they'll know it's more expensive then 30-40$.

I can probably get it done for you for less than 100$; but they do require the bond amount 1.5x's the listed bluebook value.

If it is $1100 that you listed & have already been to the Tax office in Carrolton & have the necessary paperwork I can have everything ready for you within minutes. I'm appointed through Old Republic Surety Bonds & have power of attorneys on hand. With some agents you have to wait about 72 hours so they can get the necessary paperwork.
$1100 x 1.5= $1650, so that comes out to: $50.00 premium.
I'll do it for $80.00 & that includes an agency fee of $30.00. That would be the premium even for $500 for that matter.
Normally we would charge about 120$
Give me a call at the office 972-271-6789 or cell 214-864-1053.

EDIT: Holy crap; I just saw you're about an hour 1/2 away... You'll probably spend more on gas coming back and forth.
If there is an A-Max closer to you I'll talk to the manager there and have them honor the price im giving you. Let me know.

school the uninformed: what is a bonded title? is it for cars w/o a title?
Usually it will be for a lost title; however, I've issued many bonds that the person had the title on hand but it was deemed invalid @ the tax office because either someone put whiteout on it or scribbled on it. Crazy because there are other ways to go about doing everything; ie. Affidavit of fact to make a correction or if you know the listed owner they can pick up a certified copy title themselves.

thanks for the info. ya my agent doesn't normally deal with them. I have not gone to the tax office but went to their website and looked up the value online. it was around 1100, I was told I could get it down getting it appraised but I'm not looking to spend any extra money if I don't have to. I will try to get by the tax office soon and I will try to give you a ring. I can make a trip to grand prairie if i need to so no worries there.

thanks for the info!
I used Broadway auto title and it cost me about $300 bucks for the title and appraisal on a Jeep worth like 750!
