Best way to transport a motor in bed of truck?

Gotta pick up an engine for my cousins truck and I was looking for suggestions for securing it in the bed of my truck. Any ideas? I do not have access to an engine hoist so me and some friends will have to lift it up and sit it in the bed and tie it down. I was sure if a pallet would do it or if I could sit it down on a couple of old tires and strap it down. Hope that makes sense, it's a 302 BTW.

I just use old tires and strap it down. I hauled a motor from North East Dallas back to kennedale. Just make sure its strapped down good, and it will be fine.
We set engines in customers trucks with the pan inside an old tire, close the tailgate and secure it from moving forward. If it was my truck it would have my cargo bar in front and 2inch strap to secure it from going forward.
LOL we had this one clown leave with the engine unsecured and first stop it went thru the rear window.
I have a stand that is great for that. Were are you located?

old tire, another old tire in front of it, strap it to the front of the bed
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and information. Probably gonna do the tire route, seems like people I've known have done that and it's the easiest thing for me to do as I wouldn't know where to get a pallet from.

silverhatch, appreciate the offer. The motor is going to east Texas and I don't how soon I'd be able to pick it back up. I think I'll be able to make do with the tire though, thanks!
