Anyone ever store their air compressor in the attic?

You think it would be to hot to have an air compressor up there in the hear of the summer?

I have this idea about hoisting it up there and putting it on a platform. There is an outlet up there, and a ready made hole in the ceiling I can poke a hole through, and then put a retractable hose holder on the ceiling.

It would be slicker than snot.... but would the compressor burn up? Would the air be super heated and do funky stuff?

I thought about it but didn't do it. My main concerns were if the compressor shook itself off the base that it was on, would it come crashing through the ceiling? The second concern was trying to isolate the vibration so it doesn't rock the entire house. Fortunately, my a/c and water heater are in a built in cabinet in my garage. There was room for the air compressor.

Well, my compressor has two air filled tires, and two feet that I could isolate with rubber feet. Also my attic access is in the garage, and I could place the compressor at the extreme end of the attic, nearest the garage door.

I guess my main concern would be the heat.. and getting up there to oil it and check it out.... in the heat of the summer.

It's a big unit, too..... a 30 gallon tank. Would take some doing to get it up there, but I think I could ratchet it up there with some hold down straps.

My dad's has been in his attic for years. You can remove the rubber feet and use bolts to hold it in place using a board. His is belt driven and does not get as hot as a direct drive unit.

You still need to drain it occasionally too. He has a rod tied into the ball valve on the bottom of the compressor where he can drain it from the garage. It will build much more moisture up there with the heat. It is imperative that you drain it. Hope this helps.

I have a 60Gallon, and wanted to put it in the attic as well - but I just don't think it's a "good idea". (too big). I really would like to put it outside as well and isolate it from the garage, so I don't have to listen to it run all the time. Sure would be nice.

Mounting it outside sounds like a great idea unless you dont put an insulated building around it for running it late @ night.. (Noise) & Theft might be a problem.
