.22LR Handgun Suggestions

Looking at picking up a new .22 Semi-Auto handgun. I know from reading on here that some folks have the Wather P22 and the Sig mosquito. Just curious what everyone else has and how they like them.

I would like to keep it around $400 or less and am looking right now at:
P22
Beretta
Ruger

If you have another suggestion or experience with any of them please throw it out there.

Thanks

Ruger is the best, but a bitch to take down. The Browning buckmark is also very good.

The p22 I had was okay, but could not hold a candle to the Ruger. Dont let the "cool" looking guns fool you.
Ruger in stainless with the fluted barrel is very accurate and fun to shoot
The only .22 gun I have is a P22. It hits the bulls eye and goes bang.

So that gets my vote.
I love my buckmark... it feels and shoots like a full size pistol, and the grip angle is like a 1911. Rugers are great pistols but a little harder to clean than the browning and I didn't like the grip angle
Love my P22 and several of my family members have them for plinkers. Mine is my favorite though it haz the suppressor lol

My dad has a .22 ruger thats pretty accurate. Most fun to shoot though has been the gsg5 I got from a gunshow for $460. I have the carbine but there is a pistol version as well.

I handled a GSG5 pistol at the gun show over the weekend and was suprised at how much it weighed for a .22lr.

Cool machine though, would look better with the Gemtech OUtback on it.
Heres the low down...

P22
pros: is a great gun, it functions flawlessly, lots of accessories, dependible, and you can purchase it with a suppressor threaded barrel.
cons: very small frame gun, if you have big hands, it's going to be uncomfortable.

Mosquito
Pros: good gun, accurate, full frame (comfortable with big hands)
cons: just about only works with CCI ammo. Sig themselves will tell you this if you call them, most all other ammo jams.

Ruger
pros: extremely accurate, flawless functionality, lots of accessories, dependible, full frame, comfortable to fire.
cons: like it has been said, it's a bitch to clean.

All in all, the Ruger MKII, MKIII is the best of the bunch in my opinion, with the P22 coming in second. You do get what you pay for. I have personally shot 15,000 rounds through my MKII pistol sitting on a lawn chair by a lake and it didn't jam one single time. and I'm pretty sure I took it out another time without even cleaning it and shot another 5k rounds.

Not just any CCI ammo. You need to get the hot stuff that is 1,300 fps or better.

I thought I had some in my safe, but I guess I'm out...... (makes note to buy more ammo)...

What is the point of buying a 22 that only takes 1 ammo and its pricey? When I experienced the mosquito I was disappointed, complete deal killer.

Actually the Sig will eat any hot ammo. As long as it is at least 1,300 fps or better it will work. I have used other "hot" brands in mine and it works fine.
I have 2k rnds of Winchester Super X 40 grain mega hot ammo for sale :)

I was at the range last weekend and the gentleman next to me had a few hot rounds, and he said he could only get aguila and cci to work, and only cci was completely dependible. What other ammo does work in the mosquito?

I threw away the empty boxes and I just can't remember what it was... Sorry.. Shit happens when you get old.....

I wonder if a slightly weaker spring and some good lube on the rails would fix the issue.

Possibly.
Possibly.
Might be worth checking out. Off to do some reading I go!
I have persoanlly owned the following semi auto 22's

Sig mosquito
Sig P229 conversion
Ruger Standard MkI
Smith & Wesson 422
Browning buckmark
Walther P22
Colt woodsman
Colt Huntsman
Oly Arms Wolverine
Conversion for Glock 22
Kimber 1911/22
Beretta pocket pistol
Colt Ace

The only ones I no longer own are the Ruger and the mosquito

The ruger I sold because it was too hard to take down and I didn't like the feel
the Mosquito I sold because I purchased the P229 conversion

I would hands down recomend the P22, buckmark, mosquito, or the smith

I have shot the beretta neos and the new smith POS run run far away
