1st time home buyer tax credit

Has anyone here purcashed a house this year under th 1st time homebuyer program? I have a deal in the works and we are closing on the 14th and I was wondering how long it takes to get your 8k back. I have heard conflicting stories so I would like to hear from someone who has actually taken advantage of the program. Hopefully they pay faster than the CFC deals they got going on. Any input would be appreciated.

You can either wait till you file your 09' tax return, if you efile you get your refund back pretty fast. Or you can amend your 08' tax return, but it can take awhile for the IRS to process an amended return and issue a refund... (it can take months)
We closed July 30th and amended our taxes around the 6th of August. H&R block said anywhere between 4-6 weeks.

I had H&R block do my 08' taxes so I plan to get an amendment. I did direct deposit and got my tax return payment in 2 weeks so hopefully if will be pretty quick. 4 - 6 weeks would work though. I spoke to one guy that said it took him 6 months but I don't know how fast he acted. I have already paid in more than 8k this year so hopefully it won't take long. Thanks for the input.
Mine took 6 weeks from the date I submitted the amended form.

Thanks Shane. That's what I am hoping for. I got ALOT of furniture to buy. I plan on going to H&R block on the 1st day I can.
It's been over 6 weeks for me & still no 8K. They told me it could take up to 12 weeks.
Hmmm I closed yesterday...should I ammend or just wait?
Nate, I guess that depends on if you want the money before the end of the year or you're ok with waiting until march or later.

How long do you want to be seperated from your 8k. A month or 6 months? W/ Obama in office, they may not have 8k to give out next year:sadwavey:

You buy before Dec 1 and it's yours, they can't take it away. I just don't really NEED the $8k right now, it would just sit a savings account earning very little interest. I might do it later.
we closed on jan 30th and filed our tax credit with our taxes. At the time, not sure if it has changed, they didn't not offer an E-FILE option for the 8k tax credit so we had to mail it in. We got our complete return including the 8k in just under 7 weeks from when we mailed it. Keep in mind this was tax time too so I'm unsure of if it would go faster now or not......Wish i still has some of that 8k right now, but it went right back into the remodel of the house.

I'm just saying, with how they are paying the car dealer's for the CFC deal, it just makes me a little nervous. I want mine asap before obama bankrupts us lol.

Seriously though, I need the 8k for furniture. Going from a 1700 sq house to a 3400 sq ft house leaves alot of space to fill.
