1995 F350 Doors Rattle Bad

712 Views 13 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  mysticcobrakilla
My buddy has a 1995 F350 SuperCrew Dually and all the doors rattle badly driving down the road, like they aren't shut tight. If you pull in on the door, the rattling goes away.

It doesn't seem that the striker is adjustable. And all the weatherstripping looks great, no rips, tears, etc.

The dealer said to replace the stripping, which I don't think that will fix the problem, and it's expensive.

I'm thinking maybe the latch is worn or something else. I tried looking online, and see others with the same problem, but can't find any solutions.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried shimming the hinges?

Is it possible that you have a busted hinge? Open the door, and lift up on the open end of the door. If you can feel noticeable movement, you've got a busted hinge. This was a common problem on the 83-87 Chevy trucks. I realize yours is a Ford, but it's just a thought.
I had the same problem with my 1993 F350 It you take a torx head I think a t45 and losen the strike bolt that the clasp hangs on to. You can move the bolt left right, up, down. Where ever to make the door more snug it probably needs to be moved in a little bit in. A trial and error deal.
Check the striker for a nylon piece on the striker. If it's not there get some new strikers!

That's what I'm thinking too. I registered on the ford truck forum so I could search, and this seems to be what they say too.

Thanks everyone!
If your weatherstrip is old and smashed your door will rattle. Try new weatherstrip.

It's a common problem on older fords. Ez fix though

my lightning did the same on both doors
A quick easy fix is to black tape the strikers. If that fixes it then you know thats the problem. The hinges on those trucks tend to ware out.

Bingo. This is your answer. The strike bolt is too far out, not allowing the door to shut completely and making it rattle.

Take the torx (I believe it is bigger than a T45) at the end of the striker bolt and loosen it up a few turns. It should move about a half inch in all directions. Push it in 1/8" at a time (you can compare to the "clean spot" that was under the bolt) then retighten and shut the door. Adjust until the doors close solidly without needing to be slammed. I'm certain this will fix it. I've had to adjust several of them.
No it is the nylon peice more then likely. Thats why almost all auto parts store have them in the help section. Dont adjust anything. My crew was just doing this and they are super cheap. Damn door rattled like it was half open but it wasnt. The nylon piece goes around the striker.
Ok maybe not that is for a box of 50. LOL
It was the nylon piece. They were broken off three of the doors, and the fourth door was badly worn.

I didn't realize they sold them separately, he bought four new strikers from Napa. Doors shut tight now, no more rattles.

It may have been possible to adjust the strikers and leave the sleeves off, but then there would have been metal to metal contact.

It was an easy fix, thanks everyone for the replies!
you're welcome......lol
