|jakester||Have you tried different DVD's (is it just that particular DVD or all DVD's??) Also know that Windows doesn't have a TRUE DVD playing program outside of Media Player...have you tried opening up media player and playing the DVD from there or from other DVD playing software??|

Do you have powerdvd or windvd installed?
it might be the disc as well

This will play DvDs sounds like you do not have a program to support the DVD player

Comp won't play DVD's..
I have Windows XP Home edition. I did all the windows updates avaliable and it upgraded me to service pack 2.
When I place a data cd or music cd into the drive, it works. When I place a DVD into the drive it does not. When i got click on the D drive, nothing shows.
I have the follwing type of DVD drive:
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N
I have an HP Pavillion zv5000 notbook.
