A warmup is a good idea, but an all-out cardio session will zap all of your glycogen stores, leaving you nothing to lift with. It's pretty difficult to push your muscles to the point of hypertrophy without any fuel in them.

George G. I didn't know that. I thought it was good to get your heart rate up before your workout. No marathons here. I better change my routine.

Yup. Unless of course, you are training for a marathon, or triathlon, or swimming, etc.

I just switched back to cardio then weights last week. I wanna run some tris this year with a little twist from before... all off-road tris.

5am with masters swimming (7 days a week)
7am weights (3x a week)
7am core strength (abs/hips/lower back on the ball with dumbells, 3x week)
8am 30 minutes stretching (7 days a week)
noonish running (5 days a week)
pm biking (6 days a week, late morning sunday after church - bike then run)

Only thing that sucks in January is the weather for biking. I've got my rollers for the garage, but it is as boring as riding the spin cycles at the gym. Maybe I can get the hottie from down the street to dance naked for me while I'm riding on the rollers in the garage.

I find most of the advice from triathletes that lift weights to be a little wrong. Most do high reps, trying to prove muscular endurance.

I have a staple of bench press, power cleans and squats in 5x5 fashion. Don't need big muscles, just strong muscles. Endurance from swimming, biking and running. Also getting older, need my ligaments and tendons to get some use with high weight/low reps.

White_lightning i know.. im just giving you hard time thats why i like to use the hammers strength shoulder press machine like at the frisco gym.. doesnt impact my chest at all.. the super press machine is to much shoulders + upper chest for my likeings..

Nah, I'm just verifying what you said about that hammer strength super press using too much chest to isolate the shoulders. I'm only sore right where the shoulder and pec connect and a little bit of the front delt, but I was able to go much heavier than I can on military.

I think I screwed up...

I worked shoulders and tris on Tuesday and today my chest is sore. Maybe if I hit quads and hams tonight I can get a good pump in my biceps for the weekend.
