Whew. Remodeling the bathroom has really been a pain in the ass. As you know, the monkeys that built my house did a particularly piss poor job on the bathroom. They made it easy for rats to get in and for water to get out of the shower.
After ripping out the shower and the area enclosing the garden tub, I get all that rat shit cleaned up. I closed up the entry points for the rats and replaced all wall insulation. As suggested, I used great stuff to really seal up the areas around the base of the walls. I then closed everything up with hardiboard.
With that done, I nailed down a few boards to act as the base of the shower dam. BTW, this was a great excuse to buy my first RAMSET. Holy shit that was fun and VERY effective. I then cemented in a new drain and formed up my preslope mortar bed.
Since I was waiting for the mortar bed to setup, I also poured leveling mortar on the bathroom floor.
And there goes the tile floor
cutting that circle was a bit of a bitch
Next up was the shower pan liner. There will be NO FUCKING LEAKS in this shower. Also I put in the metal lathing to shore up the mortar that will build up the shower dam.
In goes the tile grout.
And in goes the rest of the mortar for the shower pan. I also built up the damn dam.
Reinstalled the toilet.
In went a 2nd layer of cement board. This is because the wall tile will be raised from the level of the wall. This is how it was originally built. I could have put everything flush but then I would need a plumber to redo my shower plumbing. I also spackled the edges and re-enforced them with fiberglass tape.
