Boardwalk Empire

Looks like this is going to be an excellent show.

I liked having real gangsters tied into the story. People forget Capone started as muscle.

It wasn't as edgy as some other HBO shows, but I have a feeling it will amp that up a bit.

Buscemi is a great actor. It was slow, especially starting off. But I think that is due to it being the Series premiere. It is all about establishing the characters right now. I was surprised there wasn't very much violence.

Here is a pretty good blog on the show and the background of the gangsters.

Great introductory show and some really good actors in it. I'm not sure if I am buying into Bucemi being a tough guy or not, but I will be watching it for awhile to see what happens. HBO has always done series pretty well, so I"m sure it will get better.

I could totally see Buscemi being a tough guy. He had a softer role on Sopranos, but I don't think it's a stretch. You don't have to be a big dude for people to fear you, just have to be crazy and he's got that covered.

Ya'll remember when he played the Pedo in Con Air? lololol

I don't think he is meant to be a tough guy, just ruthless when need be. His character is based on a guy that helped the poor and such, but had no problem fitting someone with cement shoes. I think that is part of the show. He has to struggle with those cruel decisions.

Being "big" has nothing to do with it really. It's more of him, he looks sickly and weak to me. Not that look or demeanor is necessary really. After all, one of the most successful Don's ever was Carlo Gambino and he could hardly be looked at like a "tough guy". He was small, quiet, even grandfatherly, but was very ruthless.

As you said, there is also the weird factor with him playing the freak in Con Air or the crazy guy in Armageddon.

"Woo hooo, I've always wanted to know what it was like to have this kinda power between my legs!" -Bucemi while sitting on a atomic bomb in space on a asteroid. lmao.

He was pretty weird in "Fargo", too. His cohort in that film was REALLY disturbing.

This. He is supposed to be soft and tough at once I think. He has compassion, but also can get mean when needed. Pretty much summed it up with the "You can't be a half gangster" comment in the premiere. I enjoyed the first episode, looking forward to this entire series.

Interesting realization. All the boobies are REAL!! lol

It is interesting to see a show that has tits through the whole thing and no fake boobs showing. Still some nice racks though.

Every time I see Al Capone I keep wanting him to say "cows, I hate cows more than coppers"

He plays that roll a lot like the guy who played babyface Nelson in O' Borther Where Art Thou

Boardwalk Empire looks to be very promising.

lol, I thought that movie was terrible. On the other hand it was like 15 years ago that I saw it.

This series looks interesting, but alas, I don't have hbo.

I think it will prove to be an excellent show. I can't name any project that Martin Scorsese has involved himself in that has been anything short of brilliant. That being said, there is an awful lot of pressure on him to live up to that reputation, but I don't think it will disappoint.

I have enjoyed the first two episodes.

Yup. Pretty good. It is really starting to get interesting.

Now, at the end, did Nucky get turned on because he knew the Schraeder woman was behind the police showing up?

He's going to marry that woman I bet. He'll probably try to play it off as legitmizing himself, but he's really just tired of the dumb whores.

Agree with JKD to some extent, I think Nucky likes her because she has brains. I also kind of think that he now knows he has to have her on his side or she will bury him with the liquor cop.

He likes her because she's a regular person with no hussle and not in his lifestyle. If he was really threatened by her and didn't like her he'd just have her whacked like any other crazed gangster.

This seems most logical.

I was disappointed the hooker shot herself. She had a nice rack, and was pretty cute.

You mean other than the Frankenstein-like stitches in that mug? Damn, that guy did a number on her. I hope there's some retribution for that.

I thought that too, but wondered if he would now that she has been in touch with the cops and they would most likely pin it on him. But then again, he has obviously liked her from the get go.
