Vinyl on the come back?

I havnt bought a CD, or anything from an actual store in... years.

I've noticed two of my favorite groups are releasing all their albums on vinyl?
Is this a new thing? or its been going on for a while?

I've bought one so far, and will probably buy a record player now too!

Hank3 and Drive-by Truckers.

Not really new, there have been the die hard vinyl guys for ever... Now there has definitely been renewed interest and growth for the last decade IMO. I think a lot of music fans have just gotten sick of the shitty recordings and the move to compressed digital dowloads...

I've gotten most of my equipment and new albums from here - http://store.acousticsounds.com/AcousticSounds

Not the cheapest place to shop, but they have things you can't find anywhere else.

Compressed digital downloads? So DLing from say.. Itunes will result in poorer quality?
What If its ripped from a CD, uploaded somewhere else, then DLed to my home PC, Its looses quality?

No way a vinyl sounds better than a CD, right?

I looked on CL for player, and was a little shocked to see very very few listed

Only way you're going to get CD-quality or better is with uncompressed (lossless) audio formats.

Whether vinyl or CDs sound good depends on your equipment. And yes, vinyls can sound better than a CD. Has a warmer, more full sound to the audio than CD's bright, harsh sound.

Hell yea.
btw, I retract my CL comment. Searching "turntable" netted quite a few!

I could see me getting into this, real quick.

SonicBlue, that website had $30,000 turntables. How the fuck do you rationalize that? They didnt look solid gold

Some are 6 figures. That excludes the tonearm and cartridge. Plus you'd have to buy a pre-amp for them as well.
