Dean Acoustic Guitars

I've been shopping around for a new acoustic for a while now and some of the Dean guitars have really caught my eye, but I really have no viable info as far as how they stack up against other makers. Anyone know if they're decent guitars?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Not a fan. They're not bright but they're not warm, which is my biggest complaint. They just don't have a 'tone'. Action was ok, build quality was ok. Not bad for the price, but there are much better guitars to be had if you look around.

edit: This is in the 10-15 minutes I've had on a few up at GC, so I may have picked up a few bad apples.

As far as tone goes, I've found that it all depends on the strings, at least IMO. I've got an older Fender dreadnaught and was really unhappy with the sound when a friend of mine restrung my guitar with Elixer strings. Needless to say it sounded like a $900 guitar instead of a $300 guitar. I've never used any other strings since then.

You're certainly correct and that's the easiest way to make any guitar sound better right off the floor. I guess I'll just say that I wasn't impressed.

I wouldn't even credit it to the strings being new, I think it's actually the Elixer strings that sound that good, only because I can't stand how Dean Markley or Martin strings sound.
