NBC and BBC confirm Top Gear hosts for the U.S.
Posted: June 16th, 2008

It is finally official. After all the speculation and rumors, NBC and BBC have officially confirmed the hosts of Top Gear America. Leading the NBC pilot of the international hit series will be comedian Adam Carolla, rally champion and drift racer Tanner Foust and… wait what? Eric Stromer? Yes, that’s right - HGTV’s host of “Over Your Head” will be the third team member of Top Gear on the stateside (let’s hope he’ll be the James May of the show).

Of course we were wondering what Jeremy Clarkson had to say about all of this. When asked, Clarkson said: “This is fantastic news - but how on earth you lot are going to do it on the wrong side of the road I’ve no idea.”

Hate it or love it, this is your lineup. Let us know what you think in the comments section below. Oh and just in case you’re wondering, NBC and BBC have yet to set a firm date on when the show will make its debut.

NBC’S ‘TOP GEAR’ BUCKLES UP ITS HOSTS FOR HIGH-OCTANE PILOT FROM BBC WORLDWIDE AMERICA BASED ON INTERNATIONAL HIT FRANCHISE

BURBANK - June 16, 2008 - Television and radio comedian Adam Carolla, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust, and TV construction guru Eric Stromer, will lead NBC’s pilot of the international smash hit series “Top Gear.” The production will begin later this week.

Produced by BBC Worldwide America, the U.S. version of the hit franchise will mirror the UK show’s irreverent humor and camaraderie between the three presenters, epic races, outrageous stunts and challenges, unique celebrity guest participation and eccentric methods of testing cars.

“This franchise is a proven winner worldwide and the hosting team of Adam, Tanner and Eric that we have brought together for the U.S. version offers a perfect match of humor, insider know-how and priceless track experience,” said Craig Plestis, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming Development and Specials, NBC Entertainment. “We are going to create a high-powered show that, like the original, will keep viewers in every demographic clutching the edge of their seats.”

“These three guys will get to drive the world’s most amazing cars, go on incredible road trips and blow stuff up. It’s a dirty old job but someone has to do it…why didn’t I get the job?!” said Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, TV Sales and Content & Production, BBC Worldwide America.

Jeremy Clarkson, executive producer and host of the UK “Top Gear” said: “This is fantastic news - but how on earth you lot are going to do it on the wrong side of the road I’ve no idea.”

I can't wait to see how dumbed down the show will get with Carolla as host. Rock on.

It won't be anywhere near as good as the BBC version, simply because over here, they won't be able to bash the cars like Clarkson does, simply because US manufacturers won't give them cars to test if they do. I still think it'll be cool to watch, but no where near as good as the BBC.

Fucking FAIL!

Carolla and that idiot from HGTV? What a letdown.

I'm surprised they didn't hire Ryan Seacrest, Peanuthead Carson Daily, and Steven Cojocaro. If they're gonna ghey it up, might as well go all the way!

True, but I think its more like all the car companies will simply stop advertising on NBC. It won't just be Ford, GM, Chrysler either. Toyota, Nissan, and maybe even Honda will too...

And it is just damn near impossible to duplicate what Hamster, May, and Jeremy Fuckin' Clarkson have created. I really like Adam Carolla but he is a speck of shit on a flea who's head exploded when he tried to latch onto the pit bull that is Clarkson.

I can't stand Adam Carolla! I'll stick to the British version.

Apparently NBC just doesn't learn - they fucked up "Coupling" when they tried to Americanize British humor.

I watched that one too, hadn't seen it before.... Pure greatness.

I agree with Big Matt and others on this that they aren't going to have near the leeway to insult car manufacturers that the BBC trio has. Not to mention the total dry sense of humor is going to be replaced with slapstick bs.

Thank God new Top Gear episodes are coming.

What a waste... the hosts on Top Gear are what make the show so great... along with the awesome and shitty cars they have on. I loved their trip across the desert with "oliver".

Talk about ruining a show... sheesh...

They should have gotten Jay Lenno, Tim Allen and Robin Williams. I am glad it failed though. You can't beat BBC's Top Gear, I got my wife addicted to it.

On Top Gear BBC they tell it like it is, good or bad. Jay Leno wouldn't ever have anything negative to say.
