Yeah we don't carry the 80 gig anymore. I don't know why.

Do you still have a PS2? Why do you need backwards compatability?

I thought it would be a sacrifice as well, but I haven't had any desire to play a PS2 game since I've played a few on the PS3. It's a world of difference.

It's not like you can't just use the old console for the old games.

What I heard is they are going to stop making 80GB's and start making a 120gb or 160GB machine - just what I heard

Yep they dropped the 80gig in favor of a 120 if you call around you might still be able to find one.

the 60g does everything that the 80g does, minus 20g. Supposedly the 60 is the one to look for.

personally, a lack of backwards compatability means nothing to me, except that I can't play Final Fantasy X. Outside of that, they're all pretty much the same. Get a 40 gb.

When I bought my PS3 I got the 80 gig so I could play my old games but truthfully I have never put one in, the graphics are too good on the new ones.

Yea all stores stopped carrying the 80gig about a month ago. From everything I'm hearing through the store and online, Sony should be shipping out the new SKU's this coming month if not before the end of this month. Of course everyone has their own ideas of what the new package is gonna be, but the best of reports right now are that it's gonna have a dual shock 3 controller and Metal Gear Solid 4 packaged in the box. There were reports of a larger hard drive but those have been somewhat squashed after this new packaged was revealed. We'll see either way, you'll have to wait till June if that is so. Plus that package is gonna be the same price.

The PS3 Metal Gear Solid special edition will have everything SVTbasher said but it won't have a larger hard drive. Sony has already said it will have an 80GB drive.

However this 80GB version will only have "PARTIAL backwards compatibility" Those are Sony's words.
