RIP to a brilliant singer/songwriter

Dan Fogelberg lost his battle with prostate cancer yesterday morning.

http://www.danfogelberg.com/news.html

At least we will always have his music.

I grew up listening to Fogelberg's music. The guy was incredible. I remember as a kid when my Dad played 'Leader of the Band' for my Grandpa because it was a pretty good description (different trades) of their life and relationship. My Dad was in Singapore when my Grandpa died and we decided to play that song at the funeral.

RIP Dan.

Great songwriter/singer. We made fun of the prostate checkup, but this is what can happen if you don't.

The Leader of the Band is Gone

Aw shit man.. that sucks. Got his CD in the truck, I'll play it on the way home.

The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band.

His music was all over the radio in my high school days and for a few years after that; his music brings back a lot of memories. Shame he wasn't getting checkups.

I always liked this one (right behind Leader of the Band)

Run For The Roses

Born in the valley and raised in the trees
Of Western Kentucky on wobbly knees
With mama beside you to help you along
You'll soon be a-growing up strong

All the long, lazy mornings in pastures of green
The sun on your withers, the wind in your mane
Could never prepare you for what lies ahead
The run for the roses so red

(Chorus)
And it's run for the roses as fast as you can
Your fate is delivered, your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined in the dance
It's high time you joined in the dance

From sire to sire, it's born in the blood
The fire of a mare and the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training and it's something unknown
That drives you and carries you home
(Chorus)

I forgot about this one! Player's Anthem back in '80! LOL!

Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
I've been in love with you

Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you

I'll bring fires in the winters
You'll send showers in the springs
We'll fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings

Through the years as the fire starts to mellow
Burning lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding cracks
And the pages start to yellow
I'll be in love with you
I'll be in love with you

[Instrumental Interlude]

Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
I've been in love with you
I am in love with you

All I can think about are baseball announcers saying "And it's a home run, no wait a minute, he caught that?"
