Listen to Sirius 33 or some of the stations in the 20's, like Alt Nation, etc. for some good variety. Hard Attack on 27 kicks ass too for some heavy metal.

They've done studies you know.... 60% of the time, it works every time

If you heard them on 102.1 then chances are they are some of the following bands that they play the hell out of. Rise Against, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Muse, Miser. Any given hour you will hear a song by one of the above bands on the edge. I listen to a mix of everything, but hard alternative, power metal and black metal are my favs. The next Lake Worth GTG, get up with me and I will give you some samples.

Whoa, that sounds a little weird!

The other day I tried to listen to The Edge while driving to work. I got over half way there and never heard one song (abotu 15 minutes of driving), all talking and commercials. I never listen to FM, and that reminded me of why.

Yeah that statement didn't look too good. That will teach me to post when I am on the verge of passing out.

Here are a few bands to check out

Diecast - they aren't too heavy, but pretty good
Amon Amarth - Heavy
Daath - Heavy
Bullet For My Valentine - pretty much average for music nowadays
God Forbid - Heavy
Hammerfall - Decent sound that you don't hear too much, I guess power Metal
Haste The Day - Decent
Scar Symmetry - One of the best bands out there IMO

That should get you started.
