Syd Barrett

Tomorrow is the anniversary of Syd's passing...

I started thinking today, where would Pink Floyd be if Syd hadn't gone nuts?

A lot of the later (read more popular) music was written about Syd, his illness, his battles, his absence, etc.

Obviously their whole discography was not just a Syd tribute, but he had a big influence on the band even when not present.

Syd was great subject matter for the band... so do you think they would have become the legends they are now had Syd remained sane and in the band?

Syd was a huge influence on the early days of the band, but I think Roger Waters made them to what they became known for. Mainly DSOM and The Wall.

syd wasn't a part of that album. i'm thinking uma guma or meddle was syd barrett's last album with pink floyd.

then came david gilmore and dark side of the moon, wish you were here and animals were all written about syd barrett's departure from the band in one way or another.

**EDIT** and it's hard to argue roger waters' influence, but i really have enjoyed David Gilmore's influence on the band. the Floyd has done very well even without roger waters. The Division Bell is a top 5 Floyd LP in my opinion.

A Saucerful of Secrets was Syd's last album with Pink Floyd.

you're exactly right... i totally misinterpreted what you originally said.
