anyone like jazz standards?

just curious...

the wife and I have different tastes, but we always seem to meet in the middle, and our warmest fires seem to occur listening to standards by the classic artists

My wife and I lean a little more toward smooth jazz but sometimes it's good to listen to the "real stuff" too KNTU plays a lot of good stuff.

I love big band and piano jazz. The newer stuff is ok like they play on the Oasis like Anita Baker and such, but i tend to like the 50s stuff the most.

KUNT has some decent music every now and then....I prefer going to the random clubs around the metroplex and listening to various groups perform. They had the Addison Jazz Festival a few weeks back, and then Lovers Lane UMC had their Sacred Jazz Festival today which was pretty good.

As for recordings, check out Stan Kenton's Orchestra. Basie has always had a good band. I prefer some of the older Basie and Kenton charts along with dixieland thrown in the mix

The Balcony Club used to be good, but lately they've had a bunch of shit going through. Sambuca in Addison seems to have a few decent groups. Was one called "Tuxedo Junction" that was always good and I know a bunch of the guys in there that played Sambuca every Monday. Haven't been in the longest time because of evening classes throughout the week though.

I like Thelonious Monk myself.

Try early miles davis stuff. His later stuff was good, but it's out there!
