My GSG-522

I like the look of the MP5, but the price and the fact that I can't legally own one with the short barrel has led me to purchase the next best thing, the GSG-522. It is manufactured from German Sport Guns in Germany and imported through American Tactical Imports.

I've been doing some research/reading on forums and ordered replacement and upgrade parts. HK had completed a lawsuit with ATI/GSG and as a result, some things about the GSG5 had to be changed. Following an online video, I changed out the screws/nuts hardware on the trigger assembly, upper and the bolt. I also used some blue Loctite on the fasteners.

I converted the GSG-522 over with parts for a GSG-5 such as the front sight, charging bolt and handle, mag release and stripped lower. I added an Uncle Mikes contoured grip, actual MP5 push pins and rear sight, charging handle buffer and TruGlo styled front sight. I have other parts not on the rifle such as a foregrip, fake suppressor shroud and collapsible stock.

Took the rifle out to Alpine and had a blast. No problems thus far after about 300+ rounds. The iron sights are way off, so some type of red dot sight will be on order in the near future.

Anyhow, that's about all I can think of for now, enjoy the pics.

I can say without a doubt, it is the funniest gun to shoot. I bought mine on GunBroker.com for 380. It is the redesigned version called the GSG-522 (post lawsuit). They sell the GSG-5 (pre lawsuit) on GunBroker, but they vary in price around 500+. If you do decide to purchase one, you can go to Hot Gun Parts.com and buy the conversion kit to put it back to the pre lawsuit look build as I have done.

Rrages.com has a lot to offer for these plinkers, check them out. Some of the parts are carried over from airsoft accessories. Some tweaking and modding will be required, but it's not hard to do.

Nice gun man. I want that fore end, but they seem to sell out quick. Let me know how the SBR goes. That requires a class 2 or 3?

How do you like that Sight Mark reflex sight?

It works alright, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and I need some glasses so its hard for me to use. My son does pretty well with it though, especially for the money. I just use the irons or slap on my 3-9x Powerline to shoot distance.

The forearm is actually a airsoft conversion I did with a dremel and a lot of patience for about 1/2 the cost of the one rrages sells.

I've noticed you don't have a rail system across your receiver, just curious what sight mount is that? I converted mine over also, so no more rail.

Looks great! Rrages is the only place I know of so far selling the redesigned rail, which is sold out every where I've been to online. I'll check out some online airsoft vendors. Also, is that the ZairSoft rail?

Thanks, so most likely it would require a Class 2 only for the SBR?

I've done some reading, just not much, yet.

Anyone can make/buy an SBR who can legally purchase a handgun. And the "class III" people are referring to is actually incorrect nomenclature referring to an SOT payer.

If you want a short barrel on your 22, pay a $200 tax to the ATF and fill out a few forms. It is not a super lucrative process.

I just installed the HK Slim Forend from Rrages.com. Looks much better in my opinion.

Appreciate that info. I know (or have read) that you yourself had gone through this process. If I have any questions, do you mind if I PM you?

Thanks again.

I doubt I will ever get rid of this rifle. The iron sights and bullet impact are miles apart right now, but I'll remedy that with some type of zeroed in red dot sight.

I can't believe I'm even saying (typing) this but, I had more fun shooting this than my AR. Since it was close to closing time and no other shooters, the range master at Alpine aloud me and my friends to shoot at the wooden movable target holder in the 30 yard range on Friday.

I have the classic army version of this one: http://rrages.com/mount/mdmp5/index.htm

I don't remember the brand, but the reason it was so much cheaper was it required more dremeling to work than the ones rrages uses.

I agree with plenty of the above, the GSG is fun and whats even better is it's super cheap. Pre-Ordered mine way back when and I doubt I'll ever get rid of it.

Had to taticool it out, the parts are cheap, I could probably build 10 different variants of this gun for almost nothing.
