Scope mounting equipment/tools

I found plenty of videos online for HOW to mount the scope, but I need to get the equipment. Do I just need a gun vise and scope mounting kit? If so, do you guys have recommendations for both?

Is the Wheeler scope mount kit good?

Is it worth getting the 1" and 30mm combo? I have two 1" scopes to mount and another 1" scope that I plan on buying. No 30mm in my near future.

Do you guys recommend a gun vise? All i have is a cleaning stand:

Never used the kit but the kit is nice, the cleaning stand will work fine.

Dont waste your money on that. All you need is a couple of cheap levels and wrench/screwdriver. I have even used the line levels to do it.
Like Dee said a cleaning stand is great, hell I have used my shooting bags. Just level the gun, then level the scope. Adjust your eye relief and tighten, no more to it then that.....

And maybe a lil sandpaper if the ring has a bur in it and the scope binds up.

Thanks for the tips. I can't wait to get these scopes mounted.

Another quick question. Do you guys actually go through a barrel break in procedure? Seems to be some debate about it. I don't think it is going to be worth it on any of my guns.

I thought the same thing. If I was trying to get the most out of my gun I would probably do it just to be safe, but I am nowhere near that point yet.

Yep, agree. Unless you have a custom rifle with a match barrel that you are shooting competition it is pointless. If you are just plinking, or hunting I would not waste my time.

I mounted the scope on my AR by eyeballing it and an allen wrench with no stand. Puts 5 shots in a quarter at 100 yards without sand bags. So I guess it worked.

He told me it was a waste of time even then and he's building me a rifle right now.
