Noob question: barrel threading

So, i'm working on selling my rifle and a similar question keeps being asked.

What size is the threading on the barrel? Are there specific sizes that the barrel could have been cut? I assume there may be only a couple different sizes so most suppressors fit on most barrels.

I'm just not sure if there was a way to check without taking the rifle up to the gunsmith to take a peek.

Thanks!

It depends on the supressor you want to buy.

Give me a dollar.

If it is .223 it will most likely be 1/2" x 28. If it is .308 it will probably be 5/8" x 24

If you have an AR it will be threaded 1/2" x 28. You could pull the flash hider off it and see if it threads on.. Don't force it though.

I don't unfortunately, I'll see if the guy asking has an AR to test with since he is local. Thanks for the pointers and advice!

More importantly why are you selling the rifle?

I need gear for a bike I want

I don't use the rifle enough and I'd rather use that money for another hobby...

You should consider taking up fucking women as a hobby. It would be a lot cheaper than all the hobbies you have!

I would definitely argue the money aspect of your point, though that is definitely a rewarding hobby!

My problem is I pick a hobby, get bored, cash out, lose money, then find another hobby.

I think you're onto something here.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

If I had to wag a guess I would say 1/2"x28 same as the barrel on the AR15 platform.

Run that thing up to CTD or the gunsmith at Winchester. They could give you an answer.

Good luck with the sell but selfishly I hope you still have it in a few months when I am home next.
